Arright, kids, let's talk about what's official, and what isn't. I'm starting to think that the OP used "Off" instead of "Official" for a specific reason.
OFFICIAL: TOM BRADY IS RETIRED.
He even filed his retirement papers with the NFL this time. He has given zero indication to anyone that he's considering unretiring, and even Tweeted to that effect. Could he unretire? Sure. But his announcement this time was a bit more definitive than last time.
OFFICIAL: TEAM SOURCES IN MIAMI HAVE BEEN DIRECTLY REPORTED AS "NOT INTERESTED IN ANY OTHER QB THAN TUA."
Unlike the other rumors, (and that's officially what they are), this has been directly linked to the Dolphins. Again, DOLPHINS TEAM SOURCES have been directly attributed to this.
OFF: THE OP REALLY, REALLY DOESN'T LIKE TUA.
Oh, he might suggest otherwise. But he's taken things out of context, misconstrued, exaggerated, and flat-out just made stuff up for a long, long time to push his narrative. I will not speculate on why.
So...we have a retired QB being linked to a team that has a starting QB and has been quoted as not being interested in any other QB. Those are facts. Why?
OFFICIAL: RICH EISEN SAID HE HEARD THE OPINION OF TWO PEOPLE AT THE NFL COMBINE.
I like Rich Eisen a lot. He's probably my favorite talking head in the NFL media, even though he's a Jets fan.
Here is, word for word, what he said regarding what he heard at the combine. I'm going to clean up the punctuation and transcription:
"Not in terms of a lot of chatter, but this one just blew my mind. Tom Brady may not be done after all. A couple people are like, "Just hang on, just you wait." And I'm like, "He's Instagramming out videos of his cat!" You know...but it doesn't look like he's getting big and fat does it? And that he just thought like, "Let it play out, let's see who wants what," and the one place that folks are saying keep an eye out for is Miami. And if the Dolphins...if they get a doctor's report, a piece of information from a medical evaluation that [he] may not be ready to go, and suddenly there's Tom Brady sitting in Florida where his family is located and where he can easily locate himself keep an eye on that I was told by a couple of birdies"
That's it. That's the whole thing. A couple unnamed people at the combine gave Rich Eisen their opinion. After that, Tom Brady Tweeted the cat thing. Then Jeff Darlington reported that people in the Dolphins organization are not interested in anyone but Tua.
OFFICIAL: SCOTT ZOLAK USED WHAT RICH EISEN SAID AS A SPRINGBOARD TO GIVE HIS OPINION:
Word for word quote again, very important parts bolded and italicized here:
"Brady may go to Miami. I think that’s in play. I do. I think the possibility of him coming out of retirement is definitely 100 percent in play,” Zolak said. “You can sit there and look at the kitten tweet from yesterday. Don’t buy that.”
“This isn’t me saying it,” Zolak said. “This isn’t someone close to Brady. It started with Rich Eisen. Eisen’s at the Super Bowl. Multiple people dropped the hints. Colin Cowherd, he knows some Fox people. I don’t think he’s gonna call games. How does that deal get done? How do you sign a guy to that $375 million, 10-year contract to call games, he’s not even gonna do it next year. I know his handlers have moved to Miami. It’s built for him. He’s looking at private schools for his kids. Cowherd talks about the San Francisco offense. He’s not talking about San Francisco. He’s talking about Mike McDaniel in Miami.”
CONCLUSION: MEDIA PEOPLE LOVE TO HEAR THEMSELVES TALK.
This whole thing boils down to two unidentified people at the NFL combine giving their opinion, Rich Eisen reporting that, and then Scott Zolak using that and extrapolating what he thinks. That's it. Zolak even admits that this isn't anyone close to Brady.
it's rumor, speculation, and what the talking heads think, depending on how much caffeine they had that morning.
And that's it.
