Does anybody think this Wildcat package can continue to be effective throughout the year in the NFL? Or should we just savor the game's uniqueness? I've always thought the option would be interesting in the NFL but it would destroy the QB's, but this system places the option 5 yards behind the line, safe from harm...

It can be effective in the right situations. My feeling is a great D (Ravens, Steelers, etc...) could adjust to that package given enough time. Just like anything else in the NFL the more you use that package the more film it gives teams to look at so they can make adjustments. You better believe San Diego is going to prepare for it!

its hard to defend two actual threats at the same time. they need to have ronnie and ricky on the field at the same time, it presents a big problem for defenses.

I think it will stay in the gameplan....we wont use it 6 times again, but it is one heck of a redzone tool. Especially with Ronnie throwing the TD. Give DC's a lot to think about.

Man, I wish they kept Jayson Foster just to run this play once in a while. A real shifty player that can also QB...

Oh i most def think it is now part of the game plan. I know team will game plan for it but there are so many options running the option like that. I like Ronnie running it and having ricky on the field at the same time. But how about have Ginn fake the reverse or have all three RB, RW, TG that could confuse the hell out of even the best defenses. But i think that using it on occasion will prove to be very beneficial to this team. and if the D shows they cant do squat with it then like today keep doing it.

i would love to see ricky line up behind ronnie and teddy come around on the reverse then basically you would be defending four options

It should be run until teams show they can stop it and then some. I don't mean run it every play, but even if it is not working teams will have to game plan for it, which means one more thing for them to focus on.

i would have loved to see ronnie through that touchdown to chad pennington. since chad was lined up as a WR. HAHAHAHA

but i totally think we will use this formation all year long. it worked well yesterday. and if you have ronnie, ricky, and ginn on the field at the same time for this formation, it will make it more difficult to defend.

Sorta a gimmich in a way, I do beleive it will be part included in our Gamplan somewhat throughout the year. I sorta see it like the reverse play formation that some teams line up 2-3 plays in a row where they run different plays out of.

We might not do it every week, but I definately see the Henne using this formation every couple of games for 4-5 plays in a row just to keep Defenses guessing.

Also think we might see the actual formation used once or twice by itself just to again keep the Defenses guessing.

I'd use it when facing certain situations, primarily in the endzone. We saw the three plays run out of the formation, so I would assume teams would prepare for them. I think different personnel could be used, perhaps throwing Ginn in place of Ricky just to threaten the handoff to an even faster player. The unbalanced O-line totally nullified New Engalnd's front three, so we may see it a few times vs. the Chargers but we're going to have to learn to score without that formation - someone's eventually going to catch on enough to stop it.

Sure. It can be drawn on like a 2 minute offense when the circumstances call for it, or to shake things up when it seems like your opponent is one step ahead of you. Great way to get them backed up on their heals. But you don't want to go to that well too often or it won't be there when you need it.

I thought we would have seen something similar to this with Bess getting a direct snap while he was in motion coming back to the QB, or receiving a pitch out from one of the RBs. I would not be surprised to see Bess incorporated into this new formation the next time we see it on the field. He's shifty, and if they aren't sure what's going on or who's going to end up with the ball, that's a great player to get it to.

PS - I mailed you an 8 lb honey baked ham to celebrate the Dolphins victory over the pats. It has already been cooked, so you can heat it up as an entree, slice it for sandwiches, or your own personal favorite... put it on a stick and carry it around with you like a caramel apple.

Enjoy!

which means maybe even more variation from it. what about bringing penny around and either fake the snap to him so they think they have to cover then run brown, or actually do hand it to penny then he tosses it downfield?

there is a bunch you can do with this formation.

Our offensive play calling yesterday was absolutely phenomenal.

The fact we had such success with it yesterday I think guarantees you will see it again... Let's be honest, the 'threat' of it can be as effective as the actual formation... When used correctly.

I don't think it will ever be a 'staple' but I sure hope the concept behind it does... Attacking defences and keeping them off balance, using our personnel creatively and exploiting their versatility.. I've said it before... didn't Ginn play some QB?

the funny things is they did the play 4 times and could not stop it, thats hilarious other defenses will fall for it again, but i guess the pats are showing there age already
