At this point in free agency, offensive line remains a major need for Miami. I'm not sure that changes heading into the draft, although a trade is certainly a possibility.

Anyway, with Brandon Albert somewhat of a question with injuries maybe now would be a good time for the Dolphins to look for a LT that can slide inside to play guard for a year or two. Brandon Scherff could be an option at #14, but I see his best position at guard. I think he'd be serviceable at LT.

In a trade down scenario, there are a lot of intriguing option including Andrus Peat, DJ Humphries, and T.J. Clemmings. Those three seem like more natural left tackles and possibly could move to guard if Albert is healthy. All three are physical run blockers. Peat is probably most ready to step into a starting lineup.

Second round options might be Jake Fisher and Cedric Ogbuehi. Fisher could end up going late first. I like him in pass protection, but he's a little too finese for my taste. Same with Ogbuehi. A player I like for R2-R3 is Daryl Williams of Oklahoma. I don't see Williams at tackle, but think he would make a great guard.

As it stands right now it seems the team is primed to take an offensive lineman early, although R1 would still be a little surprising to me.

What about Flowers. Big 330 pound body dominated at LT at Miami. You'd get a guy at that size who could be more than serviceable at guard with potential to move over to right guard eventually.

I think Peat sucks, and Fisher has become one of the more overrated players in the draft. Yeah he's athletic for sure, but I haven't seen anything from him that makes me think he's a dominating player.

Ogbuehi is one of my top targets in the 2nd rnd.

To me if Scherff is there at 14 you almost have to draft him, the best way to Compete against really tough defenses Is to have some really nasty guards.

Forgot about Flowers. Yes, that's a trade down option.

Miami needs to get some physical players at guard. I think Turner can be that, but agree Scherff would be ideal. The Dolphins have to be able to match up with the AFC East, which features very physical defensive fronts.

That said, I hope the team can fill the offensive line needs without using a #1 pick.

Scherf is one of the handful of guys(Waynes, Collins and and Kendricks being the others) I would be happy to see Miami use #14 on.

Although I don't expect Waynes to be there and would prefer to trade down a half dozen spots or so before taking Kendricks or Collins.

I also fear that Scherf will probably go 1 or 2 tantalizing picks in front of 14.

I'm in the minority, surprised he's been mentioned here, but Flowers would be right up there for me. He'd be a great target in a trade down, I consider him the top tackle in the class. My only issue with him is age, but he's experienced.

No to Cedric Ogbuehi...guys technique is a mess. Good athlete with pretty atrocious tape. The athlete puts him into round 3, but with the injury I've knocked him down to round 4.

I think Schreff is strictly a guard...but a damn good one. Maybe he could work at RT, but I don't see much chance he could play LT.

We've kind of pigeon-holed ourselves here...this is without a doubt or biggest and most necessary need and it's simply becoming too tough to find OL later in the draft that are instant performers. Need to place a premium on the position these days.

Scherff is the guy I would totally hope for to be able to get OL wise.

I worry on La'el Collins and AJ Cann in pass blocking... not big on them. Ogbuehi I am not a fan of, can see him being a weaker bust than anyone out there. reasons stated above by Beard I totally concur with!!!

I know Laken Tomlinson is not stated as a scheme fit for us, but I have loved what I have watched and seen with him, he has impressed me, and I believe he has footwork which can make him a solid prospect for our o-line!!!

what I do worry about though in the draft is that after the first round, and towards the end of the second round, the talent level drops drastically of what OGs would be available for the later rounds. there are some guys you can snag and work with, but its is a lot more of developmental prospects.

So let's say Scherff is gone before pick #14. Whose next on your list? Who do you think would be next on Miami's draft board? It's pretty obvious that offensive line is still a big need despite what we are hearing in free agency. I can't imagine the team going with Dallas Thomas as a starter next year.

If you're looking for an OG, Humphries could be the pick. Great base, great awareness, fluid moving forward. The wider he gets in his drop, the less comfortable he looks. Could be because he's sill young, could be because he has below average feet for an OT. Moving him to OG, though, eliminates that, and I think he's an otherwise outstanding player.

the worst part of this is all of the top top lineman are really OT... some can be converted to OG like Scherff... but many cannot.

its tough... i like Laken Tomlinson as I said before, but people will scheme me out of that. and he does need some work, more in the running game and driving with his feet more. very knowledgeable and hard working kid.

otherwise you got OGs with question marks as well like John Miller, Jamil Douglas, and Josue Matias (whom i liked his film a lot, but he has totally fallen from combine performances and showings). you got possabilities from guys ranked more towards 6/7/or undrafted though like Beckwith and Glowinski.... but they are total works in progress.

back to OTs, DJ Humphries has a lot of injury red flags on his resume that is scary. Jake Fisher will he be able to play inside at guard? doesnt have the greatest of feet, which he tends to lose. i can see him getting pushed back and struggling to anchor in the middle. Ereck Flowers still may be an interesting option up top (for you Beard)!!!

these are some reasons i really see trouble in drafting an OT/OG later in the draft beyond round 1... and even a bit through round 2. lots of question marks after the top few!!! i'm gonna go through many these guys film again soon... gotta start weeding it out more!!!
