I need help understanding why we are so bad at this position. Don't we have what is suppose to be the best o-line coach around. We have drafted players signed free agents it doesn't seem to matter they always stink. What are we doing wrong are they to big and fat should we draft smaller lineman like Denver. No one on are staff can evaluate talent? I am serious why can't we find some lineman that can block. Are any of these guys worth having around. Berger and Toledo are unknown, can LJ Shelton be a guard is Hadnot any good. This has been going on four years. The last pro bowler we had was Webb

Wish I knew. So do a lot of others, I guess. Back when we had good O-lines, we always had quick, athletic guys who could pull and lead a sweep or make downfield assignments, like Stephenson, or Simms, or Kooch, who were also bright and got it. Now we seem to go for these huge guys who come in with weight problems and aren't so quick or athletic. Maybe it's an NFL trend; who knows. Also, from Jimmy on, there's been this philosophy of never taking O-linemen with early picks. That has to hurt.

We are supposed to have the best o-line coach in the business, so it makes sense not to draft lineman high. But I think we'll have to seriously consider looking for our future left tackle in this draft, either in rounds 1 or 2. The rest of the positions can be drafted lower

Sacks Allowed is an important stat. Hard to find. Only shows you the bad plays and not the good plays. Doesn't Tell you if a guy can run-block.

Run-blocking stats seem more useful.

Basically, Shelton can't play left tackle. Hadnot is a guard and not a Center. James is good, but played bad this year because he was injured. The right guard position has been pretty good... probably because the player is never tired because he gets help every play(Double teams with Hadnot and Carey). One on one, Right Guard has had troubles... Shelton seems to have upgraded that position.

As for Hauck, he's been slow to notice and correct problems this year.

In 2003, with Ricky, our oline ranked 28th.
In 2004, with Brock Forsey and Lamar gordon, our o-line ranked 32.
In 2005, our o-line ranked 11th
This year, our o-line is ranked 22, as of week 6. This is an improvement from week 3.

We have drafted zero top OL prospects with the exception of Carey and have not signed any top FA prospects. Building the OL and the QB position was approached with a bargain basement mentality under the Wanny and Jimmy J. admin. We never invested in either position and were still suffering at both to this day because of it.

5 reasons the o line has looked so bad.

1.formations
2.playcalling
3.qb (when c-pep was in)
4.running back
5.the o line themselves

this is not as bad of a line as it is made out to be. if ronnie had any vision at all we might actually have a running game. if mularkey quit with the 1st down run 2nd down pass 1st down pass 2nd down run predictability they wouldnt look so bad. and if we quit with the jumbo sets and trying to power run vs 8 and 9 man fronts it wouldnt look so bad. also, if we actually had some athelticism on this line that would be nice.

We need a stud left tackle and a stud center.

Because they are very expensive. Hopefully, this year we can get a few.

The reality is that the last Pro Bowl lineman we had was Jamie Nails in 2002. He didn't get voted, but he was playing well above a Pro Bowl level.

Was very dissapointed that Jamie was overlooked that season. Its more of a popularity contest for the positions that stats cannot really tell the story. Mike Alstott has been a multiple pro bowler at FB and he cannot block his own shadow. Jamie had a lot of fire that season.

Poor draft choices, poor F/A trades, OC's playcalling, and injuries.

Right on Boom. And Mark Dixon was way up there too.

I think that the following year, Nails came back 40 pounds heavier after the offseason. I think it was the same weight issue that got him cut from Buffalo in the first place. Don't quote me though.

Nails tore his achilles and was never the same.
