lookin ahead to next season, which guys on our oline are above average- good starters that we can build around for the future?

hadnot? carey? jeno? lj? name the players that you would keep and what positions you would upgrade if you were in Nick's position

Continuity seems to be so important here that really unless we're making unequivocal upgrades (ie. Leonard Davis at RG, maybe a Sam Baker or Levi Brown in the draft)...seems to me we should try and keep the entire OL in tact.

Long term we NEED to find a better LT. We could use a different pair of guards, as well.

I agree. Right now, they are playing pretty good and should improve. Liek you said, unless it's an absolute no brainer upgrade, we shouldn't mess with anything (as long as they continue to improve) except the LT spot.

But even that spot...unless its unequivocal (and a rookie is hardly ever unequivocal)...continuity would be best.

we have one of the best o-line coaches in the biz. if we continue to struggle running the ball, then we need to get him some horses

if we are going to keep Shelton at RG then perhaps we should look at the left side and center. if we go into next season with our current set of guys I would be disappointed

I would hope that we could sign a guard/center in FA and draft 1 or 2
OL

I can take comfort in the fact that we have Houck and we can no longer keep ignoring the OL in the draft

The obvious crucial position...

is, as always with a right handed QB, Left Tackle. The rest could be kept together for a year, or two, if we had a GOOD LT. We don't right now, and finding one in FA is going to cost a small fortune. We need to grab one in the draft, let Houck work with him, and let the chips fall. Webb started in his rookie year, IIRC. Somewhere there is another franchise LT out there for the "Phins to grab.

For one position I think you can take that risk if it's a clear upgrade.

That's what I just said though. If it's unequivocal, do it. But if not, don't. A rookie is almost never unequivocal. The only rookie I'm comfortable saying will start without winning the job in competition would be Joe Thomas.

just drafting OL would make me feel better

if Fonoti can make a comeback then we could save a draft pick. it would be great if we could somehow nab that Fresno State center

Good player. But man, he did get handled against some of Boise State's interior OL.

Per sources, Miami was taking a keen interest in some of the inside linemen from Louisville and Rutgers. Kurt Quarterman and Cameron Stephenson were both targeted, as well as Louisville's tackle Renardo Foster who projects to guard in the pros.

you draft and let the rookie watch for a year.

Usually. Sometimes you get lucky and he's ready right away. Sometimes you don't.

Marcus McNeil is a pretty good rookie LT right now. Nick Mangold has been playing at nearly a pro bowl level at center.

That be Kyle Young. I like him too. But unlikely I think, unless he falls to us in the second-round. I think we are setting ourselves up to grab a Levi Brown, Justin Blalock or Sam Baker. Those guys have plenty of upside and I prefer that to any free agent additions at LT.

The guy I'm not really sure I like is Jake Long. I like his attitude and how he gets after things but the dude is a waist bender and gets handled sometimes.

I agree, continuity has become critical with O-Lines. That said, an upgrade at LT would do wonders...

1) Take J.Thomas in the 1st if he's there. If not, take a decent prospect in round 2 (Harris, Free and Staley could potentially still be there).
2) Either way, you sign DMac to a 2 yr extension (like they did with Seth), then see what happens.... it's DMac's job to lose, but at least you don't go backwards in production.

I could go on for a long time about the interior guys, but I'll just say the Guards are not worth what they're being paid relative to production and although Hadnot is kind of "blah" at C, he's really cheap and the best they can do... for now.
