The #Bills still deciding whether to submit offer sheet to Charles Clay, GM Doug Whaley just told @siriusxmnfl

so what? thety might not even offer him one?

And as for Buffalo steak houses, they are re-known nation wide for having some of the top steakhouses in the country. For years, E.B. Green and The Chop House have been in the Top 10 in America. I remember E.B. Greens being rated 6th and The Chop House 9 or 10. A new one that opened a couple years ago "Bourbon and Butter" is really making a name for itself. Trust me, the Buffalo area is top notch for steakhouses and fine restaurants in general. Has come a long way.

I've never seen any of those steakhouses listed in a top 10 of the countries steakhouses, anywhere. Never even seen them in a top 10 of New York's steakhouses. Perhaps a Buffalo top 10, certainly not nationwide.

Sounds like the Bills are trying to save face. You bring in a free agent and wine and dine him for 2 days and you don't make him an offer....yeah...right.

All I gotta say is this better not happen.... I cannot wait this long:

April 24: Deadline for Restricted Free Agents to sign offer sheets

This Clay thread is SOOOOO much better than the other one. Bills are more sexy than Browns. Lots of good posts in here.

It is real strange what happened in 24 hours in Buffalo though. Did Clay have a bad steak at dinner last night? Has he landed in Cleveland yet? Craziness. All the while, this is actually working out better for Miami. He may take less money to sign an extension with the Dolphins at a nice cap hit. But need his answer soon, as Jordan Cameron is not going to wait too much longer and I really like him, if he can stay healthy.

Also Rapoport just said that we have Cameron in for a visit but we're still trying to work out a long term deal with Clay. Maybe Cameron didn't check out or we want both?

Clay was 22nd in the NFL for TD receptions by a TE, 14th in receiving yards for a TE and tied for 12th with two others for receptions by a TE.

He's not top 5 TE in football....just off the top there's Gronkowski, Graham, Olsen, Davis, Bennett, Witten, Miller, Gates...that doesn't even take into account young players who share the position like Ebron, Fleener, Eifert, etc.

Only 1 TE had a base salary higher than $6M last year. Only 10 had a base salary higher than $3M. Factoring in bonuses, only 4 TEs had a cap hit higher than $6.2M last year, only 13 had a cap hit higher than $4M.

What are we thinking he is worth? $4M - $5M a year including the bonus (cap hit)? If he doesn't agree to something do we cut him instead of paying the transition tag? We could probably get Jermaine Gresham for half of the transition tag price.

you gotta think it out too... those 2014 numbers you stated he did while struggling and roughing out knee injuries and missing games and time... solid to be a 12-14 TE in 2014.... but in 2013 was his first year really starting and playing with us. and even then he was top 7-8 TE in league, with TDs as well.

Clay is popular because he is a "hybrid" TE, one of the first type of these, you will see more coming out of college now, but this is becoming the new thing in the NFL. They value a hybrid TE who is smaller in frame than a normal TE and more athletic, and can play a few positions in the offense. So what Clay lacks in size and pure TE power, he offers FB, RB capabilities, and can even line up as a slot WR if needed. So teams can get away with carrying no FB, or one less offensive player if they have a TE like Clay. So it's no surprise he will get over paid because of it.

Here.... i posted this earlier:

in 2013 Charlie Clay was like 7th-8th-9th in the league in receptions, yards and TDs..... somewhere in there. first year really starting for us and playing
in 2014 Charlie Clay was like 12th-14th ranked TE in the league in receptions and yards... yes only 3 TDs though.... but thats also with the knee issue and out for a couple of games.

not bad for basically his first two years of starting and playing with us and our offense which is improving. he is young still too, still working and developing (hopefully with us still)

"They will be dining at one of Buffalo's finer steakhouses"

Read "They will be eating together at one of Buffalo's bars, and will likely be ordering steak off the menu."
