As a fan that has watched every game this season, as i supect most of the fans on this forum have, here is my list of players that I feel provide positive results consistentely and are therefore are the only players that must be on the 2010 roster.

Offense:

Henne - showed more than enough this year, although, as to whether he is a franchise qb, the jury is still out.

Ronnie - he can do so many things. I would hate to see him waering a different uniform.

Ricky - I think we can get one more prodcutive year out of him.

Polite, Long, Grove - No comment needed.

Smiley, Carey - very solid if not stellar.b

Thomas, Garner - Let them both compete for the job; I like both.

Hartline - love everything about him. I don't care what his 40 time is.

Camarillo - Solid number 3/4

Berger - Solid.

Defense:

Bell - doesen't get enough respect on this board. He's not polamaula or reed, but i'll take him on my team any day.

Vontae - Probably had a below average season by a normal cb's standards, but has a ton of ability.

Starks - no comment needed.

Wake - our best pass rusher by far.

Notable players that don't make the cut:

Ginn - He showed us what he can do against Houston. Still, he's a soft player and we can't count on him.

Bess - I love the guy. If he's back, i wouldn't be dissapointed, but i think his lack of speed severely limits him.

Fasano - Just ok, but we could do better.

Gibril - no comment needed.

Sean Smith - Bottom line, he's soft. Unfortunately, I don't think this will ever change.

Porter, Taylor - Warriors, but their time has past.

Crowder - Too much talk not enough walk.

Merling, Langford - We can keep these guys, but its questionable whether they'll ever be more than average.

Pat White - I'm just not sure what exactly he provides.

Bess will be fine once hes back in the slot, we line up with 2 TE's and one receiver

No disrespect or bickering intended, BUT ...
If so many of these players are listed as solid/good, why are we such an average team. Frankly, I don't think half of them will be on the team in a few years, & alot won't even be in the NFL. Just my opinion. 2 Buh-bye candidates who I believe are very ave. with high salaries (deadly combo) are Crowder & Carey. I think they got contracts as Tuna had limited options & they're better than rooks.

I believe Tuna has a similar opinion, just takes a while to upgrade/replace ... as every other team wants to do the same..

I'm not gonna comment on the entire post because I simply don't have enough time right now but there was one thing that jumped out at me.

You list Camarillo as solid and say you love everything about Hartline. You then put Bess on the "cut" list. Bess, the guy who is easily our most reliable, if not flat out best receiver. I just don't get it. What more does he have to do?

Please explain how Bess fails to meet your standards while Camarillo and Hartline get a pass.

Personally unless Ronnie Brown comes at a very reasonable price I could care less if we kept him. Another injured year for him just is too much for me.

The injury this year put me at the same point.
Rather draft a nice back than have Ronnie for 8 games next year

.

Isn't it obvious? Bess has made some plays, but also contributed drops and fumbles. Camarillo has done none of that. Hartline has more upside.

I totally agree with the original poster in his review, except that I would keep Ginn as a KR only.

Injuries are why we r 7-8 not talent since henne was 7-0 before ronnie got hurt

Merling, Langford, and Bess need to be off of the cut list. These guys are part of the foundation for how this FO wants to build the team and I think all 3 have played well enough to be on the solid list.

The problem we have is that we have alot of "solid" players and really only 1 or 2 superstars (Long and maybe Ronnie). With Ronnie turning 30 in a year and his injury history, I just can't see this team re-signing him (past 2010 if there is no new CBA). We need more big playmakers on both offense and defense and if we go get a #1 WR and a playmaking FS, we add alot to this lineup.

You want to keep a 1st round pick being paid 1st round pick money to be a KR only? Without a new CBA next year, we can just cut bait with Ginn with no cap ramifications. We need to go that route.

As for your comments on Bess, even with the fumbles and muffed punts, he has been the best WR on the team this year. Yes, he is slow. Yes, he should NOT be returning punt. But the guy has been very reliable is quick, runs good routes, and has pretty darn good hands. He's a VERY good slot WR and we would be foolish to let him go.

Ronnie is not and has never been the "explosive" running back that we need. He is not a guy who is going to burst through a hole and take it 80 yards for a touchdown. We need to find that type of running back. And a guy who can stay healthy and not be constantly injured like Ronnie is.

Bess' lack of speed limits him? Bess is just as fast as Wes Welker for crying out loud. Put some more weapons on our offense and Bess could have Welker type numbers as a receiver.

If we were to get rid of Ronnie i would hope that somehow in a year or 2 we could get Mark Ingram. (RB from alabama) it be a longshot i know.

Merling, Langford, Fasano and Bess dont deserve to be on that list. Smith isnt soft btw, its his 4th season playing on D. He will improve, why do you think the Coaching staff thought he could start out of the gate. Once he becomes more comfortable he will b able to move sides and match up better with other teams big tall targets.
