I pulled season and game stats off of NFL.com:

I remembered JT getting more results at the end of the season, but I did not recall how completely he disappeared early on. I was also suprised at how few multi-sack games he had. I don't have all these games to watch, but the theory has been that a good portion of Wale's success has been the other team's willingness to key on Taylor. The stats below seem to suggest that towards the end of the season opponents started taking Wale more seriously and that allowed JT to catch up.

For those that may have forgotten, JT's TD vs Dallas was on a Wale FF.

I still think JT is the more 'complete' player (and he's got the track record to prove it, IMO) but it would be great to see them line up together again!

Thanks for the stats Mike. Great research. And I agree it would be great to have them be the bookends for this team again. I think we need Wale around.

If DCH is correct in the other thread, its just these sort of stats that Drew wants Wayne to see. Thanks.

It's tempting to claim that the other team successfully game planned against Taylor early in the season. I do have the first Buffalo game on tape, so I'll have to see what happens.

How is it possible that NEITHER player accomplished anything in game one?

Also, I suspect that AO got more 'action' early in the season as other teams pushed the play away from JT -- not just sack opportunities, but tackles, etc. If anyone has games to look at, it would be interesting to see what happens.

Wayne has to understand the bookends we have in JT Aand AO was the best tandem in the league and its rare that a team possesses two defensive tackles with that much upside. Youth and great talent. It'll be a great benefit to keep AO around. I feel like he and JT anchor the defense because they cause opposing coaches to alter their game plans around their play. AO and JT are beasts in the AFC and Wayne needs to find a way to keep OGUN in the MIA. As a matter of fact keep all of our tandems in set.

Miami's tandems all across the board - The best in the league in 2004 - 2005 season
Wr's - Boston and Chambers
CB's - Madison and Surtain
LB's - Junior and Zach
DT's - Taylor and Ogun

I think in the WASH game and the last NYJ game some of Wales were coverage. I do know that Jason was chasing Tim Hasselbach around in the WASH game I have both those games and will watch again to see.

.

That has been the question for the last year. Not just them but in fact the whole team. Up until then I had continued to hold up DW as a decent motivator/preparer if a somewhat timid play caller but how can you allow a team with Super Bowl ambitions come out flat on your home opener? That loss put us in a hole from which we never climbed all year. I was disgusted with DW, the coaching staff, the players, and as I remember even the water boys after that game.

I don`t think there`s any way in the world I could possibly sit and watch that Washington game again. That would be pure torture...... we were lucky to win that one.

I don't look at it as torture I look at as the guys stepped up and did what it took to win that game. They had never saw Hasselbach before, yes they are all professionals and should be ready for anything but some guys have diffrent intangibles than others. Washington completely changed there game plan and Miami adjusted on the fly. They stepped up and did what it took to win the game. Yes we were lucky but when the final gun went off we walked off the field with the win. That is the beauty of the league, on any given Sunday you can win or lose.
