Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph was criticized by fans and media for dropping defensive linemen into zone coverage in last Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The purpose of dropping linemen into coverage while sending a linebacker to rush the passer is to give the defense protection by shrinking passing windows while generating pressure from the opposite side of the formation. If a fire zone blitz is executed properly, the defense will be able to shrink passing windows underneath, while getting pressure on the quarterback. The Dolphins ran into a buzzsaw as the Ravens’ offensive line protected exceptionally well and Joe Flacco threw for 381 yards.

Unfortunately, for the Dolphins, the Ravens did hone in on what the Dolphins were doing. Joseph, as usual made the necessary adjustments but the players at the second level of the defense were unable to execute.

WHAOO BLAME THE PLAYERS ND NOT THE COACH.

Does somebody win a prize for blame-placing? Who cares? The whole team played like **** and the coaching staff coached like ****.

The Dolphins have a David Johnson type running back of their own

Um . . . so about that writer . . .

“I think he is the best player in the NFL, point-blank,” Palmer said. “I think he has proven that. Our wins and losses have affected some of the hype that he has not gotten and other guys have gotten because they are on winning teams. He is the best player in the NFL.”

Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake has a very similar skill set compared to Johnson except he is slightly faster than the Cardinals’ running back. Drake has breakaway speed that is difficult to come across as it pertains to running backs that possess his size.

At 6-foot-1, 220 pounds, Drake has great speed and is every bit as versatile as Johnson. Drake occasionally spent time working with the wide receivers at the University of Alabama which helped him hone his pass-catching skills.

LMAO, I don't know what game this dude was watching but the Ravens didn't catch on to crap! They started hitting the middle immediately and never stopped. Second, we didn't adjust to crap except Wake dropping back in to coverage one time. Silly article by a guy obviously struggling for material.

38-6
The Fins were out coached and out played.

Well he sorta has a point. In his press conference, Gase emphasized that their zone windows needed to be tightened to counter what the Ravens were doing. Perhaps that was the adjustment and the players didn't execute it well.

This loss is being overblown. Every team has one of these. We beat AZ this week.

I think Miami wins out and takes the 6 seed with VJ as DC.

Did the Same thing against San Fran
Dropped wake into coverage during the fourth quarter
The defense has become very predictable

VJ seems to need a lot of help from the offense lately. Dolphin's D's last 6 quarters have been horrid. Prior to that, they did well against the Rams.

Not so much predictable vs being vulnerable due to key players out. Combine that with a lack of QB pressure and this is what you get.

Wow....that it is a bold statement! Steaks on me at Shulas if that happens. (And I'm more than happy to buy if that happens. Phins wind up 11-5!) We're flying out for a home game next Sept. I'll collect then.
