Rutgers just went from a possible BCS bowl to the possible 5th bowl in the Big East. If WV beats Rutgers they get the BCS slot. If Rutgers beats WVU then L'ville will get the BCS slot because Rutgers lost later in the year and L'vile will end up the higher rated team in the BCS poll. Thus, L'ville gets the BCS birth.

The RULE is after the BCS team is named the 2nd Big East bowl (gator/sun) can take any bowl eligable team they want. So, Rutgers could wind up in the 3rd or even 4th BIG EAST bowl depending on location and fans that wil travel....etc.

This is the kind of loss that will have Schiano saying to himself........"it's nice here but its time to move on". He didn't just get killed by a ranked team like a WV or someone of that caliber, he just got slapped around by CINCY!! That Miami job might be looking better.

My prediction is WV to the Orange or Sugar.
Then the Gator has a choice of Big 12 or Big East and they will probably take the Big 12 team since they had L'ville las tyear. Leaving the Sun Bowl with the 2nd Big East team which they will probably take L'ville just due to logistics and fans willing to travel a slightly shorter distance compared to Rutgers.

Rutgers will probably end up in the Meineke Car Care bowl or MOST LIKELY the International Bowl in Toronto, CA (the 5th Big East Bowl). Just because of location and how many fans Rutgers will travel that short distance as NJ to Toronto is a favorable trip for Rutgers fans.

MAN DID RUTGERS LOSE A LOT OF MONEY TONIGHT!!

Orange--WV
SUN--L'ville
Meinke--Cincy
Texas Bowl--S.Florida
International--Rutgers
Papa Johns Bowl---Pitt

Who honestly cares?

The only things we give a crap about is that the RU program is now on the rise and that this season is more about the future and not just this year, breaking the top 25 was their goal and that exceeded that by ten fold.

This season has meant national wide exposure that will help RU in keeping the best HS players in the state of New Jersey - rich in talent - and perhaps beyond. Their 2007 recruiting class is by far their best one yet especially with the addition of LB stud prospect Manny Abreu and if Anthony Davis commits - it's down to RU and Ohio St for rights to one of the best if not the best OL prospects - it will become even richer.

And it seems like they are now on ESPN every week and except this to continue since ESPN is about money and desperately want to cash in on the NYC market and it looks like have been.

Sure it might suck RU will lose out on more money, but when you consider what everyone expected out of them this season getting that money would have only been gravy on a great season.

U mean to tell me that if Rutgers beats WVU they don't get the BCS bowl? Even tho they beat Louiville . . .Louiville still gets the nod? Thats crazy.

Yep. Because in a 2 way tie between L'ville and Rutgers. The highest rated BCS team gets the BCS birth.

Since rutgers lost LATER in the year, plus they lost to an unranked team. L'ville is a lock to be the higher ranked team in the BCS poll.

I will tell you why it matters.........because when your GREG SCHIANO and you lose only 1 (or at most 2) games in a season. And you end up in the 5th or 4th best BIG EAST Bowl. What incentive is there for him to stay.

It just shows that you can only do so much at Rutgers!!

They lost one week later, a week after they beat LV so to me thats a non factor.

If they beat WVU they will be ahead of LV in the polls so it wont matter.

If Rutgers wins out why would anyone pass on getting a NYC area team to NOT play in their bowl game? They have already proven to be a good rating in the countries #1 market and you are going to suggest that they will get passed over for a school that is in the #69th market?

Brilliant logic there. And oh, by the way, Rugers did a great job getting their fans out to last years bowl game in Arizona. No reason to think they wouldn't even do a better job getting them out to even a bigger bowl game.

Nah iono man, Louiville will be top 10 for sure, they just beat up on a decent USF squad. Rutgers will fall big time, getting crushed by Cincy will do that to u, I mean I would think they might fall out of the top 15? Well definetly out of the top 10. Even if they beat West Va, I don't know if it is enuff, but I guess we will see.

Still can't understand why BCS rank should matter if Rutgers beat the team they would be in a tiebreak with. In the NFL, if u play someone once and beat them, if u have the same record . . . the first tiebreak is head to head.

It's just another example in how inept this BCS is.

I wouldnt bet on that. This loss will drop them a lot. A lot of people dont think RU is for real and will use this to drop them further than maybe they should. UL was getting respect from the preseason so people might not be as quick to drop them after a loss.

I dont see how you could rank a 1 loss team behind another 1 loss team that you were the only one to beat. Thats all.

Because L'ville lost to a RANKED team

Rutgers lost to an UNRANKED team and later in the year. Albeit a week later, STILL later!!!!

There is a chance the GATOR Bowl could take Rutgers. Yes, a chance. And with the GATOR BOWL on NBC (their only bowl) and Dick Embersol in charge of NBC Sports (based in NYC) a good chance.

BUT.......the Gator Bowl can also select any Big 12 team that doesn't go to the BCS (Oklahoma, Nebraska, maybe Texas...etc)

IF the Gator doesn't select Rutgers......I could see them slipping to a Meineke Bowl or International Bowl

Wrong Mike0. The Big East rule for a two-way tie is whoever holds the head to head will go to the BCS game. IE if Rutgers beats WVU (unlikely) they will go to the BCS game no matter what they're ranking.

Basically its probably going to be Louisville getting the BCS from the Big East (because of head to head over WVU) and then WVU getting an at large bid.

You may be right. But I thought it was whoever is higher in the BCS ranking.
