OK, 4th and 5 . . . 2 minutes to go, Oak 35 . . .we go for it?

What would you have done on 4th and 5?

  • Kick the FG, Carpenter can nail the 52 yarder, our ST would have pinned them back.

  • Go for it, Sparano got it right, if we make the FG, our ST would have let us down.

First of all, I loved the call . . . I did not want Oakland to have the ball with almost 2 minutes left on the clock and 3 timeouts . . . with this horrid unit that we call special teams trying to pin them back. I thought it was the right call . . . and Sparano has BALLS for doing it.

First of all . . . you ask your kicker to kick from 52 yards . . . in his first real pressure kick as a fin to take a 2 point lead. Assuming he makes it (which is not a given), u have to kickoff still and u risk giving Oakland the ball atleast at our 30, and with the way we played on ST today . . . maybe midfield . . . who knows.

U took destiny out of their hands and put it in your own by going for it. Even if u don't make it . . . u still have 2 timeouts and u can try to hold them and get the ball back for one more chance. I almost had more faith in our D stopping them and getting the ball back than kicking the FG and giving them the ball back with 3 TO's and 2 minutes. By making the conversion . . . they wasted all 3 timeouts . . . we got our kicker in closer . . . and they had under 40 seconds . . . much better odds.

I just wanna give Sparano a shout out for that call . . . because he put his *** on the line with that . . . and it paid major dividends . . . hey we aren't supposed to be 6-4 . . . we still can play like we have nothing to lose . . . I'm just happy we are competing at a higher level . . . and if my head coach wants to take destiny in his own hands . . . I'm all for it.

I'm sure many disagree with it . .. but I'm glad it worked out, and I'm sure if he didn't convert and we lost, i would be spending the whole week defending Tony and the call . . . but we won, we are 6-4 . . .and bring on those Patsies . . . at the end of the year, we will only see a W by the Oakland game, and that is all that matters.

7-4 next week baby!!

since sprano went for it and we got it most people would say go for it

I don't agree with the second option even though I picked it. I wanted us to go for it so we could eat the clock. I had a feeling someone was going to step up and fortunately that feeling was right for once lol. This team has been awesome on 4th down this year as well (we are now 8 for 10 on fourth downs this year) so why not?

The guy who actually made the call, TS, when asked why after the game, specifically said that based on pre game and half time observations and discussions, the 52yarder was OUTSIDE Carpenter's range today. So for him the decision was a no-brainer. It always helps to have "inside information" doesn't it?

Good safe pass to Ginn on that play. I'm glad Pennington made the right play there. There are so many times he's not gone to the right receiver but making the right choice there was the game. Keep making the right choices Chad.

As I listened to the game on the radio I thought the Dolphins should have gone for FG as it may have been their only chance to score. A made 1st down would not have given any points.

Of course I was wrong as the outcome demonstrated. Just goes to show that as fans we don't have the same information the coaches do and we should not second guess them as much as we do.

Yea u don't make that play unless u have confidence in Pennington and the offensive as a whole to make the conversion. And the fact that Pennington went to Ginn on 4th down speaks volumes to how far that combo has come. Earlier in the year it didn't even feel like Chad was looking for Ginn, now he is the go to guy.

I just feel comfort in knowing that the OLine would step up, Chad would make the right decision and our WR's would catch the ball.

Guess Sparano did as well, good call coach.

it seemed like the only option to me. it's called "no-mans land" for a reason. i think they should've gone for it when they were in the same area of the field earlier in the game where they punted.

Yea in that situation, I didn't like the FG option either . . . but I was more open minded to the punt because u didnt think Oakland was gonna drive the field on our defense. I still wanted to go for it also

I was more upset with the 3rd down call, as I thought it was 2 down territory and I thought we should have thrown the ball and tried harder to get the first then.

That may go down as the most important 4th down in the season. Damn clutch to pull it off. Props to the coaching staff.

I thought it was a great call for where we were at on the field. You're taking a chance with Carpenter there, so I thought it was a good call given the situation.

We had the 2 timeouts, so even if we'd have missed it, we probably could have gotten it back, especially given how bad the Raiders Offense was for most of the day.

I liked the call. I would have gone for it on 4th and 1 too...but I'll take the made FG.

I was happy to escape with a win.
