OK, chicken littles, I watched the game

I've been to both games, and although we lost them both, I think we're coming together well. There's still three pre-season games left, and that's plenty of time to work out the kinks IMO.....

The OL looked very solid against the Jags. They have one of the top ranked DL's in the NFL, and we shut them down pretty well. The protection was solid, and the running game was starting to show signs of real life...

QB G. Frerotte is clearly the starter now. There's no question that he's in control of this QB race. He's smart, decisive, and has good range on all of his passes. I think as long as he stays healthy, he'll start the entire season....

As for AJ Feeley, I think we should get rid of him. He's worthless....

QB S. Rosenfels and B. Berlin have also been impressive running this offense. I would not be surprised to see both of them move into the #2 / #3 spots once the season starts....

The defense played very well against the Jags IMO. The run defense is still in need of some tweaking, and I see alot of open space out in the flats. I like the way the DL is shaping up, and the pressure we generated. The secondary, with Daniels opposite Madison, should be pretty decent. We may see a few deep balls get past them, but for the most part, we should be alright back there as long as the DL gets pressure....

I'm not gushing with optimism, but I see improvement.....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

I couldn't give a monkeys left B*****k if we lose all our pre season games as long as we get it right for when we play Denver.

I agree. A couple other points as well.

Why are people jumping all over Frerotte about an over thrown ball in preseason? I could see a bit of worry if he under threw it. That can easily taken care of just through timing of the QB and WR in practice. It will come together. There is a reason why the team is coming together around Frerotte.. he is a leader, hes smart, and knows the system with a range of throwing skills.

On the Defensive side of the ball I noticed that Bell could cover a LOT of space. He can get to point A to point B, very quick. Its not only his speed, but he is taking very clean quick cuts, after reading the QB/WR. Assuming he is healthy, he will start at FS. Too bad he was injured earlier in his career... he would have been starting a long time ago.

Agree but the Int was well over thrown and Newson didnt have a chance at breaking it up.
And the SUN was in AJ's eye with the wind blowing extremely hard!

I just find all the excuses funny! It's a fair QB battle, Gus is in the lead and will most likely be named the starter unless AJ plays a super game sat.

It seems like Randy Mac likes Gus( ''He's like a general [in the huddle],'' tight end Randy McMichael said of Frerotte. ``He commands the respect of his troops all the time.'')

Can we just let saban name the starter and be happy, without excuses! I don't care who it is, as long as they win the job, they should start.

My thoughts, while Gus has not been lights out, he has a better presence on the field in my eyes. And I don't think its so much Gus winning the job, but more AJ losing the job.

Amen.... Last week I was very upset with the play of the OL and DB's. They improved this week which is all I really want to see at this point. I hope to see even more improvement against Pitt which also has a very good DL and passing game. I would like to improvement on our run defense as well.

Maybe its just me ...but Leftwich looks slow? I think he needs to gain more flexibility, speed/quickness and drop a few pounds?

Hes always been slow, his arm is what makes him, not his legs. He still has boatloads of potential.

You forgot to add that while Gus enjoyed good protection and a solid running game with the first team, AJ did not...but those are the breaks..I think AJ will be better for us this year than Gus, but we'll see how it works out..

You apoligized crack me up. After the first week, your excuss was that "well of course Gus looked better he was playing vs 2nd teamers" (no mention about he was playing with 2nd teamers also), now this week " well of course Gus looked better he was playing with the first team and poor little AJ had to suffer through playing vs the Jags while playing with our lowly 2nd string"
You guys can't have it both ways, either it is better to be the starter first or better to go 2nd. Either way AJ in gonna stink up the place and end back where he started before he got here. He is a 3rd stringer, always has been always will be. DEAL WITH IT !!

AJ threw a tighter spiral than Gus did, of course it was picked, but the WR (Newson?) made zero attempt to get the ball. Later in the game a WR from J'ville took an INT from us, and actually made the catch. I don't blame AJ for that. Remember this is the THIRD offensive system he's been in the past 3 years. That's a TALL order. I still say he will be fine.

IMO, "blame" is irrelevant. People keep making excuses for AJ and its definitely not the first time I've seen this. Excuses and blaming are irrelevant. If this being AJ's 3rd system in 3 years is negatively affecting his performance to the point where it is not where we need it to be, he should not be our starting quarterback period. Regardless of whether or not it's "his fault"

I should be able to see the game tonight. I'll post my thoughts.

I for one would like to see, over the next two preseason games, AJ and Gus each get one full half with all the starters, no excuses or radical o-line changes. Leave the last preseason game and the second halves of the next two for Berlin and Rosenfels.

A proper competition would allow these guys to get some kind of rythm going, instead of going in and out after a couple of series, where a bad WR or missed block degrades their evaluation.

I mean, it's not like we don't have 5 of these things, people.

Well for one thing Saban wouldn't do it, and even if he would the other team wouldn't. Lets try and stay in reality.

Wtf are you talking about? Saban doesn't need anyone's permission to do that. And as for reality, I don't know which one you're living in, but I think my idea is the best to evaluate both QBs on a level playing field.
