Ok listen up. I have been a Phin fan my whole life, and I love coming on this site for discussions and expressing my opinions about the team we all love so much. I very rarely start threads, but most of these "hate" threads just caught my attention on how negative our fan base can be...and deservingly so. We all want our PHINS to succeed. I want them to succeed as much as the next fan, but all this continuing posting about "Henne stinks", "Fire Sparano", "Ginn blows" (which he does), is not gonna get us anywhere.

As a former Miami native, and a person who has followed the Dolphins for many many years...I'm gonna try to explain this as optimistic, but yet REALISTIC as I can.

First, look back (as painful as it is) to the 2000-2006 era in Miami. Everything that could go wrong did. We had the heartbreaking "Wannsdick" era, followed by the "Lying Saban" era. We had poor draft class, after poor draft class...poor finishes, heartbreaking defeats and it appeared that it would go on for our team forever. Now, think back to 2007 when we absolutely hit ROCK-BOTTOM with "SCAM Cameron" from all those mistakes. It was without question, the worst year of my life. I took so much abuse from all my friends, Miami couldn't catch a break for their lives, and Miami was (lets be honest)...down at the bottom of the ****-hole.

Then, we completely ravamped EVERYTHING. New owner, new coach, new genral manager, and a crop of new players with some willy-ol' veterans. We had a quick fix last year, which not only will go down as one of the greatest seasons in Dolphin history, but the greatest turn-around of ALL-TIME.

We are in the second year of our rebuilding project, with new players, a new QB, a coach getting more experience and because we are 7-7, were calling for the ax on a few people, which is absolutely crazy. If you would of told me that at the start of the season that we would be 7-7 after having the toughest schedule in the NFL...I would take it...and I still do take it. I know we have had ALOT of tough breaks this year (Colts, Saints, Buffalo, Tennessee,....playing San Diego to a 3-3 tie before Penny got hurt), but you know what, every team goes through them. Every team has a few that they give away. I know its fustrating, and we all selfishly want our team to succeed and get better (I know I do), but please be positive. We are a young team, and this team is growing up before our eyes. This team knows its destination on where it wants to go.

Imagine if we still had Ronnie Brown...how different things would be.

Imagine if we still had Furguson clogging up the middle.

Imagine if we DID beat the Colts, Saints, Buffalo, and Tennessee, how much different our season would be.

It is amazing how no one appreciates just how CLOSE we are to being a contender.

We all want results now, because the fans deserve better...but let Parcells, Sparano, and Ireland continue their rebuilding process.

Let Henne grow more as a QB. Let Vontae and Sean grow more into their own as our CBs. Let these WRs of Bess, Hartline, and Camarillo grow more as a group as we get a #1 (and yes...I am on the "Ginn is no #1 WR bandwagon"...but I would keep him as a kick returner). Give these guys a chance. If nothing is accomplished 4 or 5 years down the road, then I will start ranting and raving. The Pats are slowly but surely dying down, and I really believe it will be Miami vs. the Jets for the next decade or so.

And think about this:
Look at the Raiders and the mess they are in with their "franchise QB" in Russell.

Look at the Browns who has a coach on the hot seat (again) and are without a general manager.

Look at the Lions who continue to struggle, and are showing some signs of improvement but still are the same Lions as always.

Look at the Seahawks and the mess they are in. Look at the Bills who have to decide on a new coach soon.

Look at the Chiefs who put all their marbles on a "one-hit" wonder QB who until last year, hasn't started a game since high school. How are they doing?

Trust me, Miami is a whole lot better off then most of these teams. Would you rather have Miami be in the position they are in right now heading forward, or one of these teams who are stuck in reverse. Everything takes time, and believe me, Miami is in a whole lot better position, and is a whole lot better off then most teams in the NFL now.

One of these years, whether it be sooner then later, I promise...one of these seasons, Miami will put it all together and we will get there. If the Cardinals, Seahwaks, and Panthers can do it (even though they all lost), if the Bucs can do it, if the Colts can do it after so many years of heartbreak, if the Giants can get it together for one year...Miami can surely do it as well. It is just going to take a little bit more time, but I promise....it IS going to happen one of these seasons and it will be one of the greatest feelings....and when it does happen after so many years of heartbreak, we all will appreciate it more then most fans.

Pittsburgh fans don't realize how good they have had it for years.

Were not the Pats who had to cheat to win their titles.

I can't wait for us to win one, because it will be something we all will cherish very deeply. Just give it a little bit more time, and I promise, one of these years, it is going to happen to us.

I witnessed my Miami heat win the NBA title a few years ago.
I saw my Marlins win the World Series (twice....once over those damn Yankees)
I saw both Florida and Florida state win National Championships

The only thing I want left in my sports world is to see the Dolphins win it all, and I truly believe it is coming real soon. Just keep hope alive and keep beliving. We are ALL fans. Lets act like it and support our team the way it should. Yes, they must be held accountable for their mistakes, but they also must be praised for the desire and effort that they have shown us all year. Hopefully, they can reward our loyality with a batch of division titles and a Super Bowl championship in the near future.

Keep believing....and it will happen!!!

GO PHINS!!!

Good post, But remember even though it's been many moons ago, the Fins have been to the top of the mountain, twice......

But I agree with everything you said, this team is coming together, win or lose there is positive growth this year which lays the foundation for a while to come.

Already excited over next years slightly easier schedule. We're a new squad that is demanding respect from other teams. It's been a great year of high's and low's, which i know doesn't cut it for some...but i personally have enjoyed every game...even the frustrating losses... Cheers to the dophins for some decent effort. (except for wilson & crowder..ahem.)

I agree with your thoughts but it's still too close to yesterday for me to be positive right now. The pessimist in me is more worried we aren't any closer to being a 9-5 type team than we are 5-9. It was there to be had yesterday and we just couldn't take it. Granted, with all that had happened this year I'm appreciative we even had and have a meaningful game to look forward to. It helps to think where this team is compared to where it was and that we may have a real QB finally so it's not all bad. Just hard to have that perspective today - yesterday was a tough one and August is a long way away.
