First off, we all know that DC didnt have the best 2005 season!!! As football fans we also know that a good running game opens up the passing game. So I didn a little research on the Vikings running game for the 1st 7 games of the 2005 season. I know.....STATS.....

Minnesota Vikings total yards rushing week by week.

Week 1 (L)
33 total yd rushing, DC lead the team w/ 19 rushing yards

Week 2 (L)
77 total yds rushing

Week 3 (w)
146 total yds rushing
DC 21-29, 330 yds passing and 3 tds (sure it was against the NO saints but any giving sunday)

Week 4 (L)
63 yards total rushing

Week 5 (L)
80 yds total rushing

Week 6 (W)
108 rushing yards total, DC 23-31, 280 yds 2 tds

Week 7 (L)
82 toatl rushing yards
DC injuried 1st QTR

The obvious, teams were focused to shut down Minnys passing game, and when the running game is on, the "roll" is on!!! IF OUR BACKFIELD WITH RB AND RW, COMBINED WITH DAUNTE DOESNT FIRE YOU UP, I DONT KNOW WHAT WILL. BUT I AM FIRED UP ABOUT THIS COMBO OR TRIO!!!
GO DOLPHINS!!! And to compare Gus and DC the 1st 7 games of the year is just rediculous, and if you dont see the upgrade, try opening your eyes!!!

Thoughts?

Don't forget their Pro Bowl center Matt Birk got hurt and missed the season, they had a lot of injuries, it wasn't just Daunte without Moss, he was missing a lot of pieces.

excellent post. I'm excited!!!

I think its also worth noting that his terrible season was really two horrific games, followed by some improvement, and then an injury. He threw 8 of the 12 picks in the first two games of the year, and threw more TDs than INTs over the remaining games he played in.

One other positive stat was that he still managed to complete 64.4% of his passes overall. I don't think any Dolphins QB has done that since Marino (I haven't checked, thats a guess:))

Their Center got hurt, they were running a new system (without Linehan), no Randy Moss, No running game whatsoever, no defense on that team so they always were on their heels...it was a huge mess. WHy am I even trying to explain any of this to anyone? What do I care what people think?! WE've got a probowl QB and we're gonna be OFF THE CHAIN this year.

Stop beatings up on the Caps Lock key.

Pep is in a very different situation here, that much is true. He has an explosive backfield with Brown, and maybe with Ricky. He has an amazingly athletic WR in Chambers- no Moss. However one of Mosses greatest things was his concentration, and ability to get under and react to any Pep pass that was off and make it look like it was right on, can CC do that?

Either way, yes. This is a totally different offense here, which could bear totally different results. You never know, but it all does look promising. It looks good.

great great post plus birk was injured man pep is awesome when hes has the running game to take pressure off him so defenses dont just shut the passing game down with ronnie and ricky he should be passing for like 300+yards a game i cant wait for next season i wish its started sooner im so excited

I think it is a well proven fact that Culpepper has shown TREMENDOUS highs and worrying enough lows (see ints previous to 2004).
I trust Saban will know how to get the best out of Dante and we'll be seeing the Jeckyl side of him rather than the Hyde.

yeah saban will challenge daunte and daunte since he wants to play here will perform to his best i think its not often you find a star player or franchise player that gets to play for the team he wants to

If you gonna b*tch about CAPS LOCK, at least quote the caps lock part of the post. Sheesh......Tampon Bay fans!!!!

There are other potential benefits from CPep sign on with the Phins that we might be forgetting too. Campbell - I know he's a risk, but so long as he doesn't go back to jail, he'll be a good return man and #3 or #4 WR. Plus, let's not forget that B.McKinnie(LT) has already expressed his displeasure with losing DC in Minn. He becomes a F/A next year and is a native to Miami. I know it's next year, but I wouldn't mind adding an top tier LT to the line next year and with a few good words from DC, who knows. Never know who else DC has connections with that might want to come south.
:D

And don't forget that Nate Burleson got hurt during week 2, and didn't come back until Daunte was gone. And Michael Bennett was hurt early in the season.

Actually, it's exactly the same offense, just different personnel. Moss was always blanketed so it was hard to throw him the ball. That's why DC would just throw it up and hope Moss could make a play, most of the time he did. I don't think that's DC's game tho, he's more accurate then that.

I think we have the same or possibly better personnel here surrounding DC and I expect more pro bowls from him here as well.
