I've read about three different threads and am still very confused and a wee bit disheartened. Is Ted Ginn the second coming of Yatl Green, or do we really have a lot of Nervous Nellies about?

BTW ... saw a fresh Beck highlight reel today. The release -- and just the release -- reminded me a lot of old #13. Kind of gave me shivers. :D

I have been probably one of the biggest critics about him since day 1.

I really really hope I am wrong, but in my eyes the kid has to be the next coming of Hazuse H Cristo himself to be taken at 9.

I really dont like the idea of taking somebody that we know is hurt, regardless of whether it is serious or not. Fact is he is gonna miss training camp, and perhaps a large portion of the preseason if not all. Then what?

Okay, paint me an N-2, I just think the FO blew this one, bigtime. And for the record, I am absolutely fine on them passing up Quinn for Beck...but I would have loved them to trade down a spot or two to take Landry instead of Ginn..

Okay, my 2 cents worth, I will sit back and learn..

I believe Landry went at 9.

IDK what to believe with Ginn's injury. Since I know nothing more than any of you, I will let my trust lie with the staff. I just can't believe we would miss a Lisfranc with such extensive poking and prodding. I also have just as hard of a time believing we would take someone at 9, someone whose most important asset could be forever tainted, with knowledge of this injury. Too hard to believe that we would screw the pooch that badly.

At first I was very cold towards Ginn. After reading reviews and viewing more footage, I came to realize parts of my opinion were wrong.

I thought he couldnt get off the line vs press coverage. I was wrong. just ask Aaron Ross. You cant press what you cant catch.

I thought he wouldt go over the middle. He caught over 60% of his passes over the middle in college his senior season.

I said hes not a great route runner, I was right so far. Its something that can be improved and thats the good part.

I still think his run blocking needs work, again though, thats improveable and it doesnt seem to be a lack of effort, maybe just some technique refinement.

He doesnt hear the footsteps and he doesnt seem to shy away from contact so I like those attributes obviously.

What Ive realized about Ted Ginn is that he is essentially this years Reggie Bush, a guy who is a threat to take it to the house whenever he touches the ball but may be a bit raw at his position. I can live with that.

As far as Quinn, Ive posted my opinion about him many times. I simply am not sold; never have been and wont be til he proves me wrong.

The guys I wanted, Levi Brown or Gaines Adams were not there and Greg Olsen, much as I wanted a TE was a reach. Ginn was the pick that made the most sense. We definitely needed a game breaker at the wr position and as much as I hate to take a wr there because the odds of success are against you, Ginn seems to be as good a gamble as any this side of Calvin Johnson. I would have **** a house if we'd have taken Bowe, Meachem, Jarrett or any other wr there. We didnt need a DT like Okoye or a MLB like Willis. The need for a Cb was there imo but Id argue that 9 is too high for Revis or Hall or Ross and the need wasnt as great as myself or some other shave presumed because otherwise Id like to think we may have addressed the position at some point.

So really what other choice was there? Carriker wasnt a need and would have had minimal impact this year and yet hes the only guy left I would have considered there.

To trade down you must have a partner. A question I would like to ask Mueller is what was happening on the phones during the time Miami was on the clock. You might remember they took nearly the whole 15 minutes.

Just my opinion, but I think they were trying to trade down and couldn't get a partner so they took their guy.

I live in Ohio and thus was "froced" to watch a lot of OSU games. Ginn is special. He is quicker than anyone I've seen since Deion Sanders in his prime. That said I never saw him as a polished receiver. Also look at him, he looks frail, not just small but frail. I was suprised by the stat he caught 60% between the numbers. My recollections don't square with that but I will demure.

In short Ginn is a very special return guy, who has work to do to become an NFL receiver. He is small and has a significant health question.

Number nine pick, not if I'm choosing but.............I 'm being paid to be a senior pastor not an NFL GM so what do I know.

Landry went to Washington at 6.

Mueller said they called around, using almost the entire 15 minute allotment before making their selection. Nobody called them. Nobody wanted to trade up.

After we picked Ginn, Houston immediately tried to trade down, since Ginn as their pick. Nobody wanted it. So they had to pick too.

Where did you read that as fact?? I'd say thats pretty hard to clearly say right now. I know he'll a miss mini camp or two but I thought I read he should be back for training camp, let alone preseason.

I wish, I would have been alot more comfortable with that.

I'd be fine with the Ginn pick if it wasn't for the injury, this kid needs some work at the WR position. Can't really afford to miss any time in camp.

Which makes you think they were not so hot on Ginn either.

I have a bad feeling about this pick.

By his own admission:wink:

Ginn paid a visit to the Dolphins' complex Sunday and said his sprained left foot will be in a boot for about a month. Rehabilitation will follow, and Ginn said there's no guarantee he'll be ready to practice when camp begins in three months.

And from Randy Mueller.

"We think he's a month or so out," Mueller said. "We're obviously going to treat him with kid gloves a little bit to get him right, but we don't think there's any long-term effects, and we think he'll be fine."

IMO, Mueller should have just used the word ASSUMED in this spot.

If WR was a major need, then fine, take a chance and draft this kid. Where is he actually going to end up on the depth chart? Chambers, Booker, Hagan....then Ginn? If ahead of Hagan, he has some serious catching up to do.

A kick-returner/Punt returner with the #9 is preprosterous. Taking a gimpy KR/PR that you dont know when he is going to be able to suit up is suicide IMO. And on top of that, what are Ginns true assetts? Speed- Heck yes. Ability to cut on a dime.. very much so. How is that going to be affected with a bad tire? Even if it is just a mid-ankle sprain (Should it really take 5-6 months to recuperate from an Ankle sprain?) it could pop back up anytime he has to turn on the burners or cut and juke.....

I would hardly state that as fact that he won't be ready. Ginn is no doctor by any means and that is clearly the safe thing to say to avoid criticism later on. Maybe I'm just being to optimistic here but he definitely SHOULD be ready for training camp.

I hope he is... I really do...

I have nothing against the kid, and I do think he is a great talent and he seems to have extreme positive character. I just have a really bad feeling about the pick.

He might not be a Doctor, but I am sure he has been seeing enough of them the last 4 months to have much better insight than any of us:wink:

True. I'm just trying to convince myself this was the right pick.
