I saw some signs of life the last two weeks. Ronnie Brown came to life, the OL has dramatically cut down on the sacks (part scheme..part QB not holding the ball so long), Ronnie actually had a little room to run, Joey Harington at least looks competent if not above average, our Defense played fairly well as a unit (individuals broke down...i.e. Jackson, but generally the DB's are communicating much better ... not getting lost in scheme mistakes..).

All in all I personally think this team is finally making progress. I am OK with that. This was a league worst team only 2 seasons ago and IMHO too many people bought into the hype. The DC decision put us in a hole as obviously he was not ready to play NFL calibre QB....whether he is "the answer" or not is another debate.

I may be in the minority but I did not expect a SB this year and would be happy with progress. I am at least starting to feel that there is progress regardless of the record. Nick IMO has learned a little in his decisions and we are really starting to define the problems relative to personnel. I would love to see more of some of the younger guys as the year goes on and evaluate exactly where they are..particularly in the OL and DL...Berger, Alabi, Vickerson, Evans, Roth...I would love to see them start to enter the picture more and we will not have questions this OS if they can indeed play in the RS in the NFL...

Believe me the I hate the record as much as anyone else, but I would rather lose like we did against the Jets/Pats and make progress than be exposed to effort/progress of the first 4 games.....I am not happy but feel a little better about the direction. I understand there are still big problems (personnel and organizationally IMO), but things feel a little better on the whole.

Well, of course there's been some progress lately, but that's not really the point. A team that's supposed to have a decent amount of talent just cannot play terrible all year, it's practically impossible.

It's more like climbing a hill. We climbed up a hill halfway last year, and basically slid back down near the bottom. We might be slowly (and I mean slowly) climbing back up again, but we're still nowhere near where we were or where we need to be.

Agreed

Good post, nothin to rip on there. Too much ripping on fellow fans in these forums anyway. I just wonder how much we can improve with Mularkey making the play calls, real dissappointed with our 3rd and short situations, way to much Sammy Morris. But definitely happy with the way Ronnie ran the ball and the O-line's performance (21 sacks with Daunte, 1 so far with Joey, wonder who's to blame!!)

I think every game we find new aspects to improve upon and other aspects to regress on.

The Houston game showed for the first time that we have ability to fight hard for the win at the end of the game.

The New England game showed that we can hang tough with the best of teams, move the ball on a good defense, and as Saban said "play as a team".

Now this game shows some signs that the OL could be coming to life...especially with Shelton at RG and McIntosh back at LT.

The only problem is, we found a way to lose all three games.

You have low expectations if you think the fumbles, bad play calling, interceptions, and ineptness on offense are progress. So we go on a tear last year and win 6 games, then the first 6 games this year and we are 1-5 (against poor teams)? Did you see what Dallas did to Tennesse and Houston? And Dallas, although good, is not a deep playoff team. Even if last year was somewhat of an aberation, we still were 6-0 at the end of the year.
Take off these rose colored glasses folks. How come our progress comes in minor little improvements while other teams with similar talent are taking the league by storm, or showing vastly more "improvement." I hate these little Saban speeches about how "good things to take away from the game." We LOST another one in a spectacularly bad way! And to top it, the schedule only gets worse! Get real. We will improve but WILL NOT see 10-6 this year, guaranteed.

The fans of this team are toning down their expectations after each and every game, expecting "moral" victories, and improvements here and there to be good enough. At the first of the year it was SUPERBOWL BABY! Then, after Pittsburgh, we'll go 15-1, after Houston we'll go 14-2, after Buffalo (or Tennesse, I forget) we'll go 13-3. Now, we're talking about how our team shows they have "ability to fight hard?" Crap, this is a joke. Now I see people saying, "well, we're rebuilding guys, this is to be expected." We're not rebuilding and that was never stated to be the case with this team. The team expected and the fans expected high things (playoffs and more). Now, I see the homers coming out with their revisionist history after each and every game. It's called DENIAL folks. You are in DENIAL.

I CAN take the losses but I cannot accept sloppy play and the inability to focus, laziness, and apathy. I cannot and will not accept this from the MIAMI DOLPHINS.

:shakeno:
consider yourself ripped.
1-5 against the worst of the worst dude.

I agree we suck. But does anyone think if we look respectable towards the end of the year, and don't make significant changes again (we changed a lot from last year to this) that the unit will start playing better earlier? I understand some moving parts, but units generally start playing better the longer they play together IMO.

We were playing pretty decent at the end of last year. Why didn't we take that progress and move forward instead of regress? Yes, last year was somewhat of an aberation, but we did play well.

Revisionists in denial folks. You are revisionists in denial. Can you honestly say that at the end of last year you would look at 1-5 at this point in the season and say "well, we've learned to fight hard. We actually almost played like a team today. Today we didn't get any sacks.

Do you actually think this team is really getting better? I don't. It will happen but I don't see the miracle change or any hint of that change happening yet.

C'mon. The Jets have one of the worst pass rushes in the league. Their front seven are pretty weak.
As far as the sacks are concerned, I have a slightly different take on the matter. Yes, it's true that DC was getting sacked far too often because he was holding on to the ball for too long, but a lot of those sacks were due to missed blocks by the O-line (there were some total whiffs) and the TEs.
It's also true that JH is getting rid of the ball quicker than DC but that isn't always good.
The team has been so terrified of giving up sacks recently-worried about the psycological effect it will have on the O-line - that they are game planning to get rid of the ball early. Sometimes too early. JH has missed several opportunities to make plays because he has gotten rid of the ball too quickly. He has also thrown a couple of brutal intereptions: brutal beacuse they were pathetic throws, and brutal because of the timing.
Before anyone gets irate over my cooments about JH, or thinks that I am suggesting DC should start, I want to emphatically state that JH should continue to be the starter as long as DC's knee continues to limit his mobility. HAving said that, JH needs to pick his game up and stop making terrible throws in critical situations. Don't be fooled by his stats. HE was moving the ball against a very weak pass d thatw as playing prevent.

Now I just can't decide... is the glass half empty or half full? All I know is I'm thirsty for a WIN. Can you say Green Bay? Detroit? The rest of our games are losses the way we're playing.

In my opinion...it's the wrong size glass...
