Okoye Pro Day Article

Would love to land Okoye, I see nothing but good things in his future. He's going to have a long career too, such a young age. Every interview I've ever seen with him he's been such a class act, not to mention the stories I've seen ran on him.
 
I wouldnt be disappointed if we drafted him....good kid with tons of potential!

It a good sign of his character that he wanted to get out there and run even though it wasn't really necessary.

I don't think character had as much to do with it as you think. He felt his 40 time at the combine (5.07), because of a tweaked hamstring, was too slow and he wanted to see if he could improve on that during his Pro Day. He was looking to run in the 4.7s but ran a 4.85 which is still pretty impressive for a 305 pounder.

I beg to differ. Running a 4.85 fyd didn't improve his stock any more than running a 5.07. He's still a top 15 pick. He wanted to get out there and do the best he could do, even though it didn't really matter to his draft stock. That's good character and drive for excellence. Very important qualities to look for in a draft prospect.

I didn't not say Okoye didn't have good character. I said it didn't have as much to do with him running at his Pro Day as you might think. He ran what he considered was a slow time for him at the combine. Like others before him, Okoye wanted to use his Pro Day to improve on what he did just weeks earlier.

If Okoye had indeed ran in the 4.7s, it indeed would have improved his stock. He possibly could have leap frogged Alan Branch, if he hasn't already, as the #1 DT in the draft. Who knows, he could have solidified himself as a Top 12 pick.

what could manny could do ,if he had this outlook?

I don't think a 40 time for DT necessarily carries as much weight for the draft. At least not enough weight to make a big difference in Okoye's draft status. Scouts already know he's fast for a DT, they can see that on game tape. Wether he runs a 4.8 or a 5.0 won't make that much difference to teams. IMO

This is where I think it makes a big difference. If Okoye runs as fast as he thinks he can, in the 4.7s, he can be moved outside to DE in certain situations where his speed and strength could easily out match a TE or RT. It's that kind of potential versatility that teams could use to exploit an offense.
 
I think he's gonna be a good player but if we go d-line at 9 it'd be Branch imo cos he's more the 3-4 type...a real NT as for Okoye he's a DT in a 4-3 defence.
