I'm just picking up a couple of fantasy football mags and everyone has our Offensive Line rated last or next to last. Why ??? To me we cleaned out some deadweight and infused some youth with Satele and possibly Mormino. I know Carey is moving positions but good grief are we this bad ? Everyone says Macintosh was a big loss , I thought he stunk every game . Letting him go and James was a great idea to me . I think with another year with coach Houck we will be a lot better then last year by a landslide . I think the overall perspective of Miami right now is just doom and gloom no matter what we do. I can't wait to prove everyone wrong ! Does anyone one else agree with me ?

I agree with you. I think our OLine has been underrated ever since Culpepper was behind center.

There are alot of ? with your Oline

Carey new position that he failed at as a rookie
Shelton new position this year was better at G
Rookie maybe starting Center (the QB of the Oline)
Hadanot maybe moving from Center to G
And no idea of the starter at the other G

Not to mention your TEs.

Carey failed there yes, but as you say he was a rookie. I think he is a solid OLineman and moving him to LT cant hurt. He has developed into one of the best linemen in the league and deserves to be at LT.

Shelton: You say he was better at G. Well how do you know. He was better at G than he was at LT last year yea, but he is at RT now. How do you know he wont be just fine there. I think that is his natural spot.

C: This rookie seems to be pretty good

Hadnot: Again going back to his natural spot at RG. This is where he should be. He should be just fine there.

Our other G will be Pete Kendal. I think our Oline is just fine.

And what about our TE's?

Carey new position that he failed at as a rookie
He was a rookie at the LT position when he "failed" as you put it. He was a huge success last season at RT and I don't have really any worry that he can make the switch. Heck, if arguably the best oline coach in the business(Houck) thinks he can do it, so do I.

Shelton new position this year was better at G
This is true, we was better at guard last year, but that is when you compare him to being the LT early on. He should do well at RT.

Rookie maybe starting Center (the QB of the Oline)
Satele is likely to start, and will probably have some bumps early, but Nick Mangold seemed to do pretty well at Center in his rookie year. I am not saying he will be as good as Mangold, but I don't think he will be a failure. He will likely have his rookie struggles, but he is likely to be a franchise Center for us in the long run.

Hadanot maybe moving from Center to G
No big deal as he played guard in 2004 and most of 2005. Only last year did he really play at Center.

And no idea of the starter at the other G
I agree, LG is up in the air and the two current options are nothing to write home about. Liwienski does have over 80 games starting under his belt, so he is likely the favorite over Mormino. Though if/when Pete Kendell is released from the Jets, Miami will likely snatch him up pretty fast.
Not to mention your TEs.
What is wrong with our TEs? They are mostly blocking TEs as it is.

lol. You beat me to the punch, and you have almost the same exact thoughts as me.

Amen.

I'm more concerned about our corners than I am with the offensive line. We have talent on the o-line, but not much experience at their new positions. And it's not out of the realm of possibility that we might start two rookies on the offensive line at well. Our CBs are a different story. Travis Daniels is probably our most consistent corner, but he had a lot of trouble coming back from injuries last year. Ideally, he's probably a 2nd corner or nickel back. I'm not sold on Will Allen. He played ok for most of the year, but he didn't play the way a former #1 pick should play. Andre Goodman played very well at times last year exhibited fine coverage skills. But his height works against him with bigger receivers. I'm not counting on Jason Allen doing much to help the situation either. Unless this young man makes a drastic turnaround, he may go down with the likes of Jamar Fletcher and Dorian Brew as DBs we drafted relatively high that were busts for us.

I think it's a little premature to criticize our offensive line, or any set of players for that matter, until training camp commences and we see just how well this team is shaping up. I'm sure people were critical of the Chargers for starting a rookie LT in McNeill and he ended up being a Pro Bowl player. I'm not comparing him to Carey, but I'm just in a wait-and-see mode to discover how improved our entire offense is going to be. The line did improve last year as the season progressed and I think it will be better this year.

I noticed lol. I also agree with Endorphins here(as I usually seem to) that Im more worried about our corners. I disagree in that I think Will Allen is pretty good but, I would prefer him to be our #2. He has been good vs. the run out of the CB spot. He's the only guy I dont have a huge problem with out there though. Daniels if you ask me is really no more than a good nickel corner. The key is Jason Allen. If this guy can step up and be what a first rounder should be(a solid starting corner) then we could be ok here. If not this is going to be a problem area for us.

As I have said the key is stopping the run to keep teams in obvious passing downs and allow our pass rush to dominate. This will mask our secondary. However if teams can run it on us and keep us off balance while staying in favorable down and distances our D can get torched. On any given day our D can look like the Steel Curtain of the 70's and shut you out or it can look like Tom Olivadotti is running things and give up 30. The key is stopping the run. We need Jason Allen to develop into a good NFL corner. Even if he dosent we can still dominate games with our D, but it will put alot of pressure on the front 7 to stop the run and smother the QB. I think they can do it either way but, please dont let Keith Traylor get injured. We need some of these young guys to step up and dominate the middle while Traylor gets breathers too. No long drives on us. None of that Jests garbage where they convert every 3rd and medium on an 80 yard drive that has negative effects later in the game and results in a TD on top of it. We need to get off the field on 3rd downs.

The best way to see if our O line is good or not is to see them play. I don't see them being the bad this year, but only time can tell.

I wouldn't have any problems with Will Allen being our #2 corner. That just means someone has to either step up and earn the #1 corner position, or we'll draft or sign him hopefully next season.

What you are saying makes sense. However, the problem is with the tackle positions. Carey hasn't proven he can play LT and Shelton hasn't proven he can play RT. Toledo and Alibi can't stay healthy long enough to play and Rosenthal has also been slowed by injuries. Dukes and Wilson are undrafted rookies. That lineup does not inspire confidence IMO.

if pre season comments meant anything we would have won many more superbowls and would have had lot more worst seasons then we have in the histroy of phins

It's based on last year's production. It doesn't matter what those mags think, even if they had rated our o-line high. At the end of the day, we'll see what it looks like after the real games have been played. We have alot of new players, or the same players playing new positions, so we don't even really know what we have yet...
