While I do beleive our Pass Protection will be better then last year.(How can it not..right?) i am extremly concernced about our Run Blocking.

Who exactly are we going to run behind? Outside of Pouncey(Maybe Colledge) the rest of our starters are known to be notoriously below average run blockers and it showed in Preaseason game .

Can RT or this offense really last a whole year without a Run game? I am a huge RT fan but thats alot to ask of a young QB.

Can u really judge our o-line and overall running game based off 10 plays and a vanilla game plan??? Bring this topic back week 3 of regular season and we can talk.

I have a feeling you could be right - but then again, the starting 5 had 10 plays together if I'm not mistaken. There were some good running plays, e.g. Miller from the 10 going in and made 5 yards - just before the TD - so it could be a case of letting it/them develop.

However, that being said, coming back to your point - how I see it is this - we will need 2 things to help the running game.

1. The pass to set up the run [ makes it difficult when you actually need to run the ball though ]

2. RT will have to be a threat after handing the ball off - case in point, the 3rd down conversion early in the 1st drive - the backside DE should have snuffed it out, but he held contain as RT had an ever so slight movement and handed the ball off as if he was doing the zone read.

Not saying RT should run the zone read or be used more as a runner - quite the opposite - he's there to throw the ball and I really wouldn't use him as a runner as you'll just wear him down - but he can influence back side defenders if he is disciplined.

I don't think we have the personnel to run downhill on teams.

Our best bet will be to spread out defenses with our passing game. Deep go routes to Wallace & Clay. Sideline routes with Hartline. Shred the middle with Jarvis Landry. Quick WR screens from sideline to sideline. Read options with Tannehill. Spread out opposing defenses by making them cover every inch of the field.

Then do a lot of delayed draw runs against a spread out defense. This is basically how Knowshon Moreno racked up so many yards last year.

LOL of course we can start judging them from now... thats the whole point of the preseason.. Either way, i could have made this post a week before the game it would have made no difference... read up on the strengths and weaknesses of each of our OL individually... On Paper we should be an above average Pass Blocking OL and below average run blocking OL.. I think this is highly concernable.

well last season the oline couldn't run block or pass block. so at least they got one of them covered.

The biggest thing I took from game #1 from the OL is that they played pretty well as a unit, with no starter, as well as Smith, having a single penalty. Credit to Benton.

I have to disagree with the "notoriously below average." Last year Albert was average, an upgrade. Colledge was below average but, take out the first game of the year, and he was average as well, not as good as Cog but, an upgrade overall. Pouncey was a little above average in an off year run wise, and will be an upgrade on himself when he comes back. The left side should be improved to average or, maybe a little better.

We have nothing to go by on Dallas or James. Chances are they will both struggle but, no one knows. Shelly could improve things IF he shows as good as Dallas in pass protect. I do think Samson will be a liability in the regular season if forced to play.

Overall, I share your concerns but, things could work out to average, which would be a big improvement. We shall see.

If we allow 40 sacks instead of 58, I will be a happy camper!!!

With Lazor's O, I can see the sacks coming down. Can't say the same on hits and hurries, especially from the right side.

They ran 4 running plays tho. And found success on 2 or 3 of them. Put down the koolaid
