I'm getting to the point that I'm seeing McCain make the final 53 and the FO not risking him getting poached off of the PS, the only caveat being the fact that we're stuck with the Wheeler/Ellerbe contracts this year. The guy has a knack for getting into the backfield and his lateral pursuit is outstanding, he seems to have a head for the game and a nose for the ball. If he is in fact a diamond in the rough and he gets poached if put on the PS, that would be a shame. 6-5, 250, pretty solid at the point of attack, a lateral pursuit demon with pass rush ability and he makes plays. Between him and Fede I see two very good additions to the front 7, and I'd like to see McCain and Tripp get every opportunity to climb up the depth chart in the remaining preseason games.

1 more season for Ellerbe and Wheeler "tic toc tic toc" Hopefully our coach will get our rookie linebackers enough playing time
so they can become our future starters

Been saying the same thing since the offseason. McCain has a real shot at stardom. He has a great motor and refuses to be blocked. If we could put his drive in Dion Jordan we would have a beast.

I'd rather get rid of Trusnick than MCCain, Tripp gives us some position flexibility and depth if Misi or one of the two starting OLB clowns go down.

If Miami is dumb enough to put McCain on the PS, I'll start looking forward to the 2015 when a new staff arrives. Given the pathetic state of the starting LB's, no decent staff would make THAT mistake.

Let the best players play and put the players that don't on the bench.
Who cares if a big contract is riding the pine? Just dump them as soon as possible.
We need to win games, not worry about playing players that are inferior to other players.
So if we can replace Wheeler and Ellerbe, do it. let them watch instead of play. Let them be high priced backups until we can dump them next season.

chris mccain is no diamond in the rough. not by a LONG shot.

mccain is the real deal. his playing was NOT why he wasnt drafted, it was academics and an off field incident. he has always been a great specimen and productive on the field.

and yes, if he is exposed to the practice squad, he will be the first guy plucked. probably by billichek or ryan. i see a bonafide starter, for all the reasons you mentioned. plus, he can actually cover a TE down field.

tripp is another guy who looks like a bonafide starter. i really want to see a threesome of tripp-misi-mccain on the field before the season starts. for a good stretch of time, early on against the other teams starters. i believe these 3 guys, especially tripp and mccain are our future.

McCain looked really good replacing Wheeler! Real good...

YEPPERS!! yes indeedy!!

of course, a team has to be careful with this kind of thing as dead money adds up quick and can hurt a team even more than what they were trying to fix.

but, in this case with our lb's being so poor last year and not looking much better so far [outside misi], and us not being doomed for years in any cap hell, at least ONE should go and we eat the ireland mistake. and i think we ALL agree, WHEELER is the guy to go first. then add tripp or mccain and dont look back.

These guys would. look what's happening with Dallas Thomas. The guy is a human turnstile and they are still trucking him out there to get the QB and RBs killed.

Something people don't mention enough about Wheeler. On a lot of the plays where he's missing tackles or overrunning the play, he's unblocked. We need a good athlete, with good instincts, who can finish tackles. There are a lot of plays to be made at that position in this D, and aside from making those plays, the D doesn't ask too much of the WLB. I'm 75% that starting McCain (or Tripp for that matter) over Wheeler would immediately improve our D. That's not even talking about how much better they'll be by the time Miami returns from the bye.

Dolphin management will have to be dragged kicking and screaming into making the changes needed at LB.

The fact that they are starting to mix guys with the 1st and 2s says different. Likely, they would let Wheeler start because he's a vet. But he would be replaced 4-6 games into the season if they can get better play from say, McCain.

It's not only a talent thing, But you gotta be careful with the pecking order when it comes to Vets. Team morale and the impression of "lack of respect" or "respect" are a big deal. Especially, if you're talking about replacing a Vet with an unproven rookie.
