Older Dolphin fans

If that happened...would you still be as devoted? I feel like that would be the key to me leaving the Fins for good...just would not be the same

If they move, they will most likely lose me as a fan. I'll probably quit watching football all together at that point too.

42 here, fan since 6 or 7 years old. I didn't se play the 71 and 72 dolphins, so I became a fan between eras, the unbeaten and the Marino era.
My first idols were: David Woodly and Don Strock, Andan Franklin, Jim Jensen (I saw him at Ravens game this year), Tommy Vigorito, Glenn and Lyle Blackwood and the rest of the killer bee's, Nat Moore, Tony Nathan, etc. Some great name for the older fans.
I plan on going over 80, so, I still have 40 years to witness a miracle.

Good post...just one thing...who the hell is Kyle Blackwood? I remember Glenn and Lyle Blackwood, but not Kyle.

You are correct, my mistake, I will edit it, thanks for the correction, I'm sure I have some others wrong, since I did it just out of my head

my age, considering what our team has done the last decade, are starting to have that
sickning feeling,we might NEVER see another SuperBowl win?

Remember losing to Dallas in the First Supr Bowl I saw the Dolphins play in,made me cry, I was like 5 or 6,Im soon to be 49 myelf. Then back to back and undefeated,I long for those days again !Thought Marino would get us another,I wonder if we will ever win another, but I'm a DIEHARD fan, WONT EVER give up for another one !!! I feel very fortunate. I was in 5th through 9th grade during Shula's first seasons of 1970-74. Just old enough to carefully follow and fully appreciate everything. If I had been 4-5 years younger I think the memories and the knowledge would be considerably lower. We had a great neighborhood of kids who really understood the sport and the team. I've mentioned previously that Dolphin defensive line coach Mo Scarry and defensive back coach Tom Keane lived in the immediate area. I knew their sons very well and went to school with them, along with almost daily playground football, basketball and golf. There was occasional inside info. But what struck me was their sons were never too high or too low. Not that there were too many lows in that era. But after the occasional stunning loss they'd be very even emotionally, and indicate the same thing from their dads. I think it taught me not to overreact, that talent level tends to dictate outcomes.

It's not even close to the same these days. The Orange Bowl on game day felt like the center of the universe. I almost felt sorry for the opponent, walking into a nightmare venue like that. The drive to the game was a joy, along with the parking hilarity, and the rowdy energized force field circling the stadium, like a certainty of success within a few hours. I still have no idea how we ended up throwing it all away. I was at the game last night. Every time I'm in that stadium, particularly for a Dolphin game, I wonder why all the younger fans are cheering. It feels like they are being cheated. They are going to remember this version? Sad.

When we get special people running the franchise again, maybe it will change, and quickly. The community deserves a special stadium that features fan impact and a relevant location.

I must say I was extremely disappointed in fan behavior last night. That's one aspect that has evolved markedly for the worse. With a decade of poor performances it's like some Dolphin fans try to spice things up with profanity and crudeness and violence. I was low in the upper deck, section 431. There were a handful of Bengal fans in the section but they were tame, almost silent. Heck, they were Bengal fans. Do Bengal fans have any type of reputation? I've not aware of one. They had nothing to cheer about during the first half. Once Cincinnati scored to make it 17-10, two Bengal fans near me stood up and turned around, gesturing with their hands. It wasn't vulgar or offensive. Virtually nothing. They were basically announcing their team had woken up and would be a force for the remainder of the game. Somehow, Dolphin fans complained and security arrived to escort the two guys out of their seats and out of the section. I was shocked, to the point of disbelief. They had done nothing wrong. Somehow the security guards took the word of people who had alerted them, instead of investigating the matter. Another Bengal fan nearby voiced his shock and disgust. He was attacked from behind by a young Dolphin fan who literally had a chokehold around the guy's neck with both hands. This was two rows from the bottom of the upper deck. They were wrestling and it wouldn't have taken much for a disaster to occur. Again, somehow the guy who started the incident and was the offending party received a full pass. He was actually cheered by Dolphin fans in the area. Night games bring out a rowdier crowd but last night was disgraceful, at least in the area I was sitting and can account for. It certainly made me less inclined to attend another Dolphin game.

I'm 44 and have been a fan since I knew what a football was in the early 70s. I'm actually closer to 65 in when you consider the number of years being a fan of this team has taken off my life but as long as they win 1 Super Bowl before I go, it will be totally worth it...

I remember those days soo very well also, and your right on ! Other teams and players would come into that stadium and literally wilt under the heat and sun, while our Dulphins grew stronger and strived in it,Shula had them so in shape and ready in those days !

46 years old and been a fan since I vacationed in Miami in 1972. Always loved Bob Griese because he wore glasses like I already did when I was 5 years old.

I'm 41 and have been a Dolphins fan since about 1976. It's just a matter of the stars aligning right for us, oh, and getting the combination of a really good head coach and a really good GM. GO PHINS!!!

I guess I'm the eternal optimist. Been a fan since 1970 and was spoiled by those early teams when a loss was almost shocking. I think the current team has some building blocks, but the pieces have to be put together pretty quickly. It's a different NFL and things change in a hurry so let's stay optimistic.

54 grew right up the road in Palm Beach from Miami and running Shula out of town has proven to be a huge mistake. The Miami media and the fans demanded more and have certainly gotten less from the likes of big names like Jimmy Johnson, Nick Saban and Bill Parcells. Currently hoping that Philbin is a sleeper as a coach and surprises us. Not sold on the offensive style we are playing and we are about a stud line backer away from having a top notch defense. Glad to see us running and give our defense a little rest.

49 DolFan since 2-ot playoff win over KC. Odd a farmboy from Illinois loves the Fish. Would love to see another Run to Glory!!!!
