Let me say I don't believe in Vernon. That said, I hope he proves me WRONG and I will not only eat crow I will become his biggest supporter....But I still see him being a bust, we shall see.
I'm going to adopt a wait and see approach. I see power and decent overall athleticism. He has good pursuit. But, he doesn't look particularly quick-twitch for the first step edge rush and good but not great overall speed. These might be rust, who knows. What I definitely see though is a non-instinctive raw player. He appears to me to be a poor-man's version of Channing Crowder. If that's not damning with feint praise, I don't know what is. But, I'm willing to accept that it could all be because he's a raw player who missed vital time early in the season and with proper coaching he may be able to react quickly rather than hesitating and trying to remember what exactly he needs to do in each situation. Jury is definitely still out. Could he be our next Cameron Wake? I would be very pleasantly surprised if he were, but I don't see the quick burst that Wake has.
I think he'll fit in well in our D line rotation. He's quick and very disruptive but don't expect a lot of sacks. He did not play much his senior year and it may take a while before he shines in the big league. How long did it take until Big Paul figured it out. i think he'll rotate with Wake and Odrick in the 4 man line at end.Vernon is a very good prospect but will need to be coached up. Id be surprised if he has more than 5 sacks this year. It is rare that guys come into the NFL and start racking up sacks, unless its a truly elite guy. He also he wont be on the field that much either. He will come in from time to time as a sub and also get soem work on obvious passing downs. Its gonna take him MIN 1 year, maybe 2, to get acclimated.

You can not have enough good pass rushers and we have only a couple.I think this is how it will be most likely. If he doesn't turn into a machine, we still need keep looking for pass rushers like the Giants (I'm so jealous of JPP). Wake is great now, but soon enough his years will be getting up there

I def agree that we can always use more pass rushers. We now have Wake and Vernon, but I think Odrick will surprise a lot of people this year with pass rushing. He had 6 sacks in a position where he was not asked to pass rush. I really think this guy will thrive in a 4-3, especially on obvious passing downs where he can work from the DT position and use his power. I don't think its to much of a reach to think he can add another 5 or 6 more sacks this years putting him in the 10+ sacks category.
