Olivier Vernon game film and draft profile

That would be fantastic. The problem with a rotation is your snaps are limited. 6 or 7 sacks from him plus a few from Vernon and Starks would be just what the docter ordered. I think Dansby and Burnett will be coming quite a lot so thier sack numbers should be up also.

I hear you, but I think Odrick is a 3 down player now with the departure of Langford, so he will get a bunch of snaps. He was limited last year (569 snaps, roughly 35 per game, so about 50% of defensive snaps) and still managed to get 6 sacks. Odrick will be a DE on run downs and move inside sometimes on obvious passing downs. I think he will go up to about 75% of snaps on defense this year. I think Soliai will be the one to lose more snaps this year. But our d-line looks pretty damn good this year. Starks, Soliai, Odrick, Wake, McDaniel, Vernon. And I def agree with you that our LBs will improve also.

I hear ya. Big Paul will never see a third and long.

Don't agree at all.

I can remember J TAYLOR and T ARMSTRONG each having huge years at their DE position, and ZACK having a big year at MLB, because MIAMI had 2 big DTs who were good at penetration and QB pressure. D GARDNER and T BOWENS were BIG, STRONG DTs who could run-stuff, keep all blockers off of ZACK, and flush the pocket w/regularity. They even got some sacks! Any QB who had to leave the pocket was living dangerously...and that happened a lot.

Today, we have SOLIAI who didn't get a lot of "pressures" on the QB in the 3-4. But NOW, it's 3-vs-2 in the interior line play, and I see SOLIAI as enjoying the odds a lot more w/a STARKS, or ODRICK, or even McDANIEL at DT w/him. Imagine, e.g., WAKE and ODRICK at DEs w/SOLIAI and STARKS inside...or even McDANIEL and SOLIAI inside. Who gets "double-teamed"? Everybody? If so, who prevents an OLB from waltzing in and destroying a QB? SOLIAI is fast for someone that size. I still remember the 1st play of our playoff game vs the RAVENS. SOLIAI split a double team by 2 very solid OLmen (a G and a certain C that a lot of us wanted MIAMI to go after in F/A), and hit a certain power Back 1/2 step after he got the handoff. Not only did he fumble: he woke up in the middle of next week. We lost that game, but NOT because of SOLIAI. And I can't think of many interior OLs that will excel against STARKS/SOLIAI, ODRICK/SOLIAI, or McDANIEL/SOLIAI. And then, there's our DEs and WAKE, w/o even discussing our new players. WHO do you double-team? If the answer is WAKE, can you thrive w/having MIAMI's DTs "flush the pocket" a lot? I think not! And TOMMY Boy absolutely HATES that!

So, I MIGHT NOT take SOLIAI out on 3rd Down...at least not all of the time. Let our opponents worry a bit!!! I/m/o, we already have the players and depth to get it done.

I know what your saying and I do think Soliai is a beast but at 6'4 355lbs, these guys get tired. If he turns out to be a Wilfork then bless his soul, but the fact is Soliai played 39% of defensive snaps last year. Thats less than Odrick last year (approx 50%). Mike Nolan would generally take Soliai out on 4-3 packages and he is a pretty damn good DC. Im a huge Soliai fan dont get me wrong, I just think Odrick is better suited for the inside pass rushing job next to Starks or Soliai I guess.

Wouldn't you rather have Starks and Oldrick rushing the passer while Big Paul the run stuffer gets a blow ? (so to speak)
That's why i say no 3rd and longs. He's not a pass rusher even though he does box the QB in with middle pressure. Just my opinion.

Let me say I don't believe in Vernon. That said, I hope he proves me WRONG and I will not only eat crow I will become his biggest supporter....But I still see him being a bust, we shall see.

I kind of think it's difficult to be labeled a 3rd round bust. Unless he gets cut in year 1 and that is just not likely to happen.
