Olivier Vernon stealing spotlight from Cam Wake as Miami Dolphins’ sack master

You have to realize that, Wake is actually opening up Vernon's side of the line. Without Wake's pressure and the attention he draws from a teams oline, Vernon wouldn't have as many sacks as he has. It's equivalent to a dominant wide receiver pulling defenses to one side of the field and allowing the lesser known wide receivers on the opposite side to rack up their stats.

That's not taking anything away from Vernon, but let's understand how/why he's so successful all of a sudden.

You don't have to explain football to me, thanks. I know exactly what you are saying and it is true, yes but, do you give all the credit of OVs 10.5 sacks to Wake? Would wake have the 6.5 sacks if OV wasn't on the other side? or if Solai wasn't in the middle taking up blockers? And you are taking away from OV by saying the only reason he has his sacks is because wake is on the other side. You are giving credit for those sacks to Wake. Wake was on the team last season when OV didn't have this many sacks, what changed? OVs improvement is what changed. If he continues to improve, he'll be an all pro. Sort of like wake and JT.

I will remember that Cam Wake won that Bengals game for us in overtime.... This could be the reason we might make the playoffs over the Bengals.

Point?

Like I said before, not taking anything away from OV... the kid has shined this year and definitely can see an improvement in him. I won't credit all 10.5 sacks of his on Wake's pressure from the other side, but you'll have to be blind to not see that Wake demands the most attention from the opposite side. Don't get me wrong...the way our Dline has been playing it's hard to key in on ANY one player on our D (Wake, Solai, Jordan, Odrick, Vernon etc...)

I'm giving him his props but you think he'd have 10.5 without Wake on the other side? Let's be for real

first off, kudos to vernon for FINALLY showing up in games.

second, CAM ONLY PLAYED HALF THE YEAR!! had vernon only played a handful of games this year, we wouldnt even be talking about him!!!

man, a guy has ONE decent season and we already have members making posts about trading cam away. WHEN OLIVIER VERNON can put up double digit sacks year after year after year with NO help on the other side, THEN lets sing the guys praises. heck, lets just see if he even gets a sack next year before we say ANYTHING about him other than "he is having a nice season", which is all he deserves at this point.

AWSOME if he has turned some corner and we now have that perfect bookend for cam, but, lets wait and see, shall we?

Olivier Vernon still hasn't impressed me. If the Dolphins do resign him, it won't be the kind of money Cam Wake or Jason Taylor would get heading into the prime of his career in my opinion.
Sure he gets a sack when the quarterback holds the ball too long, but I don't seem him dominating whoever is trying to block him. I don't think other teams will play to double team him for the rest of the season, so hopefully he continues to play well. This is by far his best season but I'm more impressed with Wake playing pretty well with a knee that still isn't 100%...getting great leverage, push, etc.

Let's see them double up Vernon, and count the sacks that Cam gets. Our D line is loaded .... I don't care who gets the sacks as long as WE GET THEM!

I think he's turning a corner. Its Vernon's 2nd year in the league and he's showing great improvement. The motor on this guy doesn't stop. Powering through tackles with beast like force. True Cam Wake gets a lot of attention on the other end. Vernon is benefiting from it but isn't that what we want? As long as someone is getting sacks job well done. Coyle deserves a little credit for his coaching. Secondary holding it down too.

Oh yea stop with the trade Wake shyt......just stop it......ridiculous

I am so proud of OV and how he has stepped up this year but let us not forget that part of his impact comes from the opposing OL being concerned about Wake. IMO this is partially why Wake hasn't had as many sacks this year (along with his injury). Teams have been worried about Wake allowing OV to have a bigger impact. OV is becoming a better player so IMO both of these situations have lead to OV getting his sacks.

Wake was on the same line as OV last year and OV only had 3.5 sacks. Considering Wake isn't having the season he had last year(because of injuries), why has OV improved so much? Wake isn't the player he was last season so, the credit for the improvement is OVs and his alone. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Having Wake on the other side DEFINITELY helps OV out, only dummies would think that Wake's pass rush doesn't take blockers away from other lineman. Football oline 101 is not needed here. But, we have 4 decent to great pass rushers on this team-wake, jordan, OV and Shelby. And 3 of them are beginning their careers. What is more important, protecting Ryan Tannehill or Wake's pass rush? The ONLY trade I'd make, WITH EASE, with Wake is for a dominant LT. I'd make that trade TODAY!! Wake is a Dolphin and a great locker room guy but, NO ONE can tell me that Wake's rushing skills are more important than protection for our QB. Before going on tangents as to why I'm a b*llsh*ter, answer the question- what's more important, protecting Ryan Tannehill or Wake's rushing ability? As far as I'm concerned NOTHING is more important to this team than protecting our franchise QB. NOTHING!!!!

NRA- cam has only played half the year. AND OV STILL HAS 10.5 SACKS!!!!!! Thank you for making my point.

I completely disagreed with your point, but then you started using all caps and exclamation marks. That definitely won me over. Trade Wake tomorrow I say.

I'd say you have an extremely weak mental and should seek help if swayed by caps and punctuation. But, thank you for agreeing with me. ;)

Yes, my mental is very weak, thanks for noticing. Btw, you may want to change that avatar of yours - maybe to some O-lineman that you prefer over Wake.

Knowing is half the battle brother. Keep up the hope. When an Olineman is our best player, our gladly change it. Maybe some time soon.

Btw, just a little tip for you - "mental" is not a noun. Knowing is half the battle, brother. ;)

Yet you responded and used it in your post. Who's the dummy?
