4. Omar Could Be Going Homar.
Last year, Omar Jacobs was a dark horse Heisman candidate at Bowling Green. In April of this year, he was a fifth-round draft pick.
Now, he's in danger of getting cut.
Shane Boyd got more reps than Jacobs in the first preseason game, and word is that he's having trouble picking up the offense. Though some in the organization view Jacobs as a better long-term prospect, the thinking is that Coach Chin prefers Boyd. Since there's a chance that Cowher won't be around to reap the benefits of Omar's upside, Jacobs could be finished in the 'Burgh before he even gets started.
And if you think that the Steelers won't dump a fifth-round pick, run that one by Fred Gibson, a fourth-round receiver who was sent packing last season.

I know, we got culpepper and we've got harrington, but i think it'd be awesome to have a guy like this on the team. He'd be a great player to have in the future. Thoughts?

They're not dumping Cleo Lemon for him. Perhaps if they can sign him to the practice squad, but I don't know how much of a reality that's going to be.

Harrington will not be here for more than a year in all likeliness, i think they would make a move for this kid.

The practice squad is the only place for him, it would be an upgrade over Brock Berlin. IMO

I agree. It would be nice to have a promising developmental QB on the practice squad whose name isn't Berlin.

Joey is here for 1-2 years max. If the guy pans out, he'll want to start somewhere. If he doesn't.. well, then Cleo probably beats him out for the backup spot sooner or later.

The knock on Jacobs was that he had odd mechanics that might take 2-3 years to get ironed out. Since we might need a new third stringer in 1-2 years, it seems possible that we take a serious look at him if he is available.

Another raw but talented guy that might be available (I think) is McPherson. He's currently 4th string in New Orleans and just got hit by a mascot in a golf cart (I'm not making this up!). Saban expressed his interest in both these guys during the scouting process this year and last. The 53-man cut date should be interesting.

Get real, their is a reason Jacobs is about to get cut,he blows.
He was a average system QB in college,at best.
The pro game will/has exploited all his shortcomings.

I watched the Steelers play in preseason this weekend. Boyd played a lot of snaps and he looked good. Boyd throws a hard ball.

In the time that I saw Jacobs, he looked very good. He looked comfortable in his reads and he didn't seem rattled by his first live action in the NFL. For some reason the announcers couldn't get over his delivery motion. They harped on it every throw. I found it funny that they kept harping on his motion, but they didn't concentrate on the results. The ball was getting there with plenty of velocity and with accuracy.

I think Jacobs on the practice squad would be a significant upgrade over Brock Berlin.

Why would we want a slow learning qb.

Watch around the third pre-season game (if he is still
on a roster)when the defenses start game planning,
and he has to make some decisions.

I agree, but in that case its likeliy that the steelers are going to put him in their PS

Finally someone with some sense around here. If someone drafts this guy and still dosent even want him on their team in any manner, then why the hell would we want anything to do with him. And if I'm not mistaken hasn't Berlin looked decent and worthy of a practice squad spot? Wait I know. Let's go get Marice Clarett. The Broncos cut him last year didn't they? He was a Heisman Candidate in college. A 3rd round pick and Denver didn't keep him? What are they stupid?

After watching him I got a different opinion. I thought his release looked extremly slow. I didnt see any potential in him.

We have brock berlin on the roster for crying out loud.

We aren't talking about either player (Berlin or Jacobs) ever amounting to being worth salt in the NFL. Does it matter who is our PS QB?

I think not.
