Kelly tweeted "How he loved how Tannehill never checks down."

I haven't really noticed, but its true Ryan has checked down very rarely this year (for various reasons, most of the time we need the rb to pick up the pass rush).

What I am now asking the board is do you think rarely checking down is a good indicator of a good qb? (not saying good qbs don't check down). But, we have seen Henne, and others similar to him check down often...

And is there by some chance a statistic that shows the % of passing plays a qb "checks down?"

Defense dictates where Tannehill goes with the ball. He's always been that way. What I'm starting to see now, due to improved O-line play, is he's going to his 2nd and 3rd reads better.

And Tom Brady is the king of check downs. He's the master of the short pass especially when he had Welker.

Checkdowns are useful to have, but some QBs we've recently had (John Beck and Chad Henne) both earned the nickname Captain Checkdown where they wouldn't even look at their reads and go to the RB right away. It cripples the offense. You watch QBs like Brady/Manning/Brees/Big Ben when they checkdown they go through all the reads before throwing to the RB who squated in the middle of the field.

And just to be clear a lot of our short yardage passes are made to get YAC (always been a key component of the WCO) but calling those plays on 3rd and long aren't always wise.

I'd say the biggest concern with him not being a "checkdown" QB is the fact that his yards per attempt is still around 6.8 . . . which is still pretty low and says the obvious that we aren't really hitting on a lot of "big plays". A lot of short passes, less chunk plays. You could also say there is a good chance his "checkdowns" are lower because we keep the backs in for pass protection more often than other teams.

You can't really say not looking at the checkdown is a "great thing" either. Brady has made a living out of finding the checkdown option. It's all about finding the best option, which changes from play to play.

It amazes me how someone who actually played some NFL football and has so much inside access to the Fins knows so little about football.

I can tell you this, my twitter TL is much happier since i stopped following him and his ego.

This is not about omar kelly lol....we all know he blows...so why waste your breath

I have noticed that....he really tries to make the most of his pre-snap reads...

Check Down Chad! (Henne)..... thank the lord those days are a distant memory.

I'd rather have a downfield QB learn to check down than a checkdown QB learn to look downfield. Trent Edwards is out of the league

I love the fact that Ryan Tannehill rarely ever checkdowns, especially since he follows Checkdown Chad. BUT, it isn't a bad play.

I will continue to say this till someone listens. Two easy ways for Tannehill to cheat & make Miami's offense better. 1. Run. 2. Checkdowns

I agree with Omar on the few checkdowns that are there though. But not on running more. Now that we are in a playoff run for the last wild card.We will see the surprise designed runs from Ryan.

Here's a checkdown you cant pass up.While some are crying deep pass,I am wanting the checkdowns.

True..... he obviously couldn't step up and it's pretty much a Tannehill sandwich. If he ****ed his arm it would more than likely have been a fumble.
