Omar kelly: Yeremiah bell a salary-cap casuality?

Bell hasn't been better than average since getting his big contract - he had a couple years where he made plays and those were before 2008. He has had his moments, he gets a lot of tackles and hits hard but he is below average in coverage, prob bottom 10 at his position.

No question he leaves something to be desired in coverage, but remember he is a SS, not a FS. He has always been a big reason why our run defense remains solid and there are stats that back that up (when Bell is not in the game). Many teams don't have that sure tackling SS back there that a defense can rely on.

Trust me, at the price he is at, that has to be reduced, no question, but I salute Yeremiah for always bringing it on Sundays and being one of the more consistent players on this team during this rough patch. I think he is alot better than people are giving him credit for and depending on someone else to take his role over (kind of like depending on Jones to be a FS this season) may not be as cut and dry as it looks on paper. You hope he can cut that number and help transistion whoever to become his replacement. Bell has done pretty well for himself considering he was a late bloomer with several critical injuries on his resume . . . injuries in which you saw a decline in the defense when they happened. Hell I know I consider Bell going down in the first game of 2007 the single biggest blow to us having a 1-15 season that year.

i agree with kdawg, bell had a rough year but i would not let him go, restructure n keep him.
