Who is screwing things up on the D?

On defensive side of the ball, Are the players under achieving, or are we just calling the wrong plays/formations from the sidelines?

We will never know if Reshad Jones can make a play on the ball because he cant follow his coverage assignment to begin with. On defense, I'd personally think its the players underachieving. On offense I think its the players and the coaching scheme. You can make a case that the players are underachieving because they don't believe in the coach, but I don't buy that theory. These players are playing for money and contracts, and they want to perform well regardless of the coaching situation.

On offense, the oline just sucks and it is the biggest reason we cannot score more than 17 points a game. DaBol's lack of creativity after the planned scripted play calls is a big concern. Notice after the first or second drive, the play calling becomes incoherent.
On defense, the secondary is loaded with athletes that cannot play football. The nose tackle is content with his salary, and the other DL players take turns taking plays off. Someone needs to tell Burnett and Dansby that the season has started....

Well said there man. Well said.

I think our secondary situation for years has suffered due to a lack of a true player at FS.

We need to find that FS that can QB the secondary. The drop off we've had since Brock left has been huge. Marion wasnt all-world but we haven't done any better thats for sure.

FS play sucks, Vonte has been injured, Carroll sucks as an outside CB, and on offense.... Thomas has been injured, and the coaching staff has no clue how to utilize Bush.

There are gaping holes in our secondary. I think there was a serious issue with our conditioning coming into this season which I would blame on the coaching staff. Then once things start breaking wrong. Confidence goes and it's a hard road back.

And don't think for a minute that the rest of the league is unaware of what exactly is our problem(s) on defense. Heck, New England really took advantage of our defensive issues, compounding things with a no huddle offense that demolished us to smithereens. That game made me so mad that memories of it today brings me headaches...actually, physical pain. That's crazy. Our defense during that game was man handled. And it was the Patriots of all teams; with an on-target, in The Zone Brady (still great after twelve seasons playing pro ball) carving us up like a Thanksgiving turkey. Our whole squad looked like headless turkeys running into each other like knuckleheads.

My sig pic doesn't read LUCK, it reads HOPE. Let's knock down the house, that is if we win the overall first selection, and build around Andrew. Andrew will devastate opposing teams like Andrew, the CAT 5 cane, demolished our city back in '92.

If you truly love our team you must, I mean you really must, get on board the Andrew Luck bandwagon. Andrew Luck WILL be one huge factor in turning that corner we all want to reach so badly. Bring in Gruden and his crew of coaches, take Andrew Luck as the overall number one, draft one or two big offensive lineman to shield him (give him more time in the pocket), and let Marshall, Bess, Bush (as a short yard receiver) open up the playing field to establish the run game; let the defense do what each of us (the fans) know they can do. Remember that even with this hard to endure season before us, national sport lines still say (and amen to that) that we have two of the top defensive backs, in Smith and Davis, in the league.

It's simple, not hard at all to figure a way out of this abyss. Lose games = overall draft selection = Andrew Luck = Jon Gruden (with Luck on board Gruden would be foolish in not accepting a HC position here) = playoffs next year. From there anything is possible...a divisional championship game, a freaking Superbowl appearance if not a third League Championship.

Listen, losing games now will place our Miami Dolphins on that initial point of change (the corner we all have been lusting to turn for years now) with the selection of Andrew Luck. The domino effect will follow and come next season we WILL BE on the sure road to the playoffs.

I love my team so much, that if losing games now means playing in the post season next year, then I am passionately rooting for every team we face this year to beat us. If that's what we need to turn that elusive corner, then why not do it? I do not see another way out that will so dramatically change our course to stardom -- to bring home a Super Bowl team/trophy to our city.

I think the players have underachieved. Nolan is proven, this is the worst defense he's ever had but other than this year, his defense has always been on the Top ranks.

imo Luck is the first choice BUT if something was to happen that we didnt get the #1 pick and get the 2nd pick then we will still be in great (AWSOME) shape because Landry Jones is going to be a beast ive watched his games this year and he is getting better each and every game and id be very very happy with either of these 2 guys running our offence ( Luck 1a) ( jones 1b)

Coordinators put the playmakers in a position to make plays. The fact that we have no playmakers is on the players, the position coaches, the scouts, and ultimately the head coach and GM.

There's enough blame to go around for different problems we have on defense and offense.
1. Reshad Jones taking bad angles - poor positional coaching
2. The whole defense missing tackles - positional coaching
3. The MLBs not knowing how to jam the tight end and then run with him - poor positional coaching
4. No field stretching tight end added in the offseason - GM
5. Signing Reggie Bush as the primary back - GM, head coach
6. Not using Reggie Bush properly in good matchups - offensive coordinator
7. Turning a mediocre RT in Vernon Carey into a mediocre RG - head coach
8. Signing Marc Colombo on the downside of his career - head coach and GM
