Dolphins now 'one day at a time' with DeVante

New Dolphins WRs coach Ben Johnson says the team is applying a "one day at a time" mentality with DeVante Parker.

"We were making these giant claims about him last year," Johnson, quite accurately, pointed out. "Now just one-day-at-a-time mentality. Keep stacking good days on top of each other." After the Dolphins tried to verbally will Parker to a breakout last season, he posted a modest 57/670/1 line across 13 games. Despite the change in tactics, Johnson stressed the team is happy with Parker. "I don’t know if there’s many guys that have spent more time in the building than him." Parker will open the year on the WR3/4 fringes in fantasy. It's a crowded receiver corps in Miami.

I'm rooting for him but it almost feels like they want him to learn how to walk before he can run?

Sorry if this had been posted already but I didn't see it

So a coaching staff who has proven to be completely honest about their guys have all expressed their pleasure with Parker. Can we stop listening to the garbage out there about his work ethic, dietary plans, etc.? Just because he doesn't want to work out at Chris Chambers' facility doesn't mean he's not doing what he's supposed to be doing.

He's had some unfortunate lingering injuries. I think having him healthy to start the season is the focus. We'll see how he performs with an actual NFL QB throwing him the football without having to force feed a needy slot receiver. Parker's skillset is best used in an "open" offense.

Sadly, this is just par for the course with this guy.

And whose fault was it a slot was being "force fed" the ball? Coaches? Scheme? QB? All of the above?

I don't know if any of us can give an accurate answer there, but it definitely hindered the **** out of our offense. Sometimes it took 2-3 quarters just to get other guys involved.

I'm of the belief that you'll get more out of 60-70 receptions from Parker vs. 90-100+ from Landry. I think Parker and Stills can potentially have career years this season.

I just feel like they're walking it backwards. You normally go "one day at a time" the rookie year and go from there.....lol

in all seriousness he could have a good season this year but he needs to stay healthy and so does Tannehill. The fact that Landry's gone should open up opportunities for the others. It's up to them to take advantage of it.

This is ridiculous, are seriously talking about taking it one day at a time with this guy? How long has he been in the league? Parker's not a rookie anymore, so sick of hearing the same thing every year about this guy, well I for one am not falling for it again.....believe it when I see it.

he is a flat out bust, period. can't stay healthy, has no awareness on the field, poor body control/can't get both feet down, can't learn a playbook....all the physical talent in the world and can't put it together. That's the fault of the coaching staff and scouting for drafting this guy that high.

Why would Gase let this out? This sounds like it should be kept in-house. It sounds like he feels he's being rushed and still not ready for primetime.
