I find it interesting that his idea doesn't necessarily involve stopping the plays itself, but trying to prevent the Miami coaches from using it at all. Either way, I don't see too much risk for Pennington. He can get jammed at the line, and he might get knocked on his butt trying to block, but neither of those scenarios scare me. Only worrisome thing I can think of is if the run play gets stuffed with Pennington in the pile, but the chances of that happening are not that good......

That is about stupid as can be.......(the article)
Have the QB run straight out of bounds....ummmm problem solved.
Have the QB run five yards, then they can't touch him.....ummm problem solved
KISS method baby...keep it simple stupid I think that applies here.
Not to mention Chad is like bigger than a corner trying to chuck him at the line- Advantage Pennington

One of the posters there said it best........"Okay, I may not be an NFL coach, but wouldn't this formation still work if they just took Pennington out of the play? Why does it really matter that he is out there at receiver? Everyone knows Miami is not going to throw him the ball. Now that teams have seen that ronnie brown can throw decent enough, chad is not really a "wrench" in the play. Just put a blocking receiver out there or a TE and the play should still work just fine, maybe even better."

I think that the NFL would have serious issues if a player intentionally tried to injure a QB, or any player. I pretty sure it would draw a few flags as well. Why not just man up and try to stop it straight up rather than trying to hurt somebody.

because it's the basic personel on the field ,and when they break the huddle, you don't know they're about to use the wildcat, leaving little time to adjust.

if you change your personnel, coaches are paid to see who is out there, and believe me they will be a lot more ready without chad out there

Cause Pennigton is running the huddle, and after that you can´t substitute players anymore, and if Penny left before the huddle all defenses will know whats coming !!...as simple as it is...

What a crap article....."Send your scary defender to hit the QB hard blah blah blah." YES, and any ref who sees this would right away flag the defense for unnecessary roughness. All Chad has to do is step out of bounds if he is really concerned about getting hit. Better yet, send a receiver to run to the area where the "scary defender" is going to blow up our QB, and see how this will quickly put a stop to this. The guy who wrote this article is clearly a Pat's fan who got a good beat down like Rodney Harrison.

sure hit pennington and all of a sudden they realize ok, lets just either
a) take pennington out and line up another wide receiver or
b) line him up behind ronnie brown

either way his well thought out plan is useless

I honestly think this is the sole reason we took a look at quincy carter. If this wildcat formation proves to be successful this year we may want to look towards drafting a tough running QB next year in the later rounds. Or picking one up in FA.

sweet, I would love for every defense to take their "scariest" defender out of the play in an attempt to "blast" Pennington, so while he's "blasting" Pennington, Ronnie can be walking his way into the endzone

this formation doesnt need a tough qb, this formation needs a qb that doesnt mind being either yanked every now and then for this play OR put in the backfield to maybe take a handoff from brown, kind of a lightening flea flicker

I wish you were the defensive coordinator for the Chargers. Leave Pennington as an uncovered receiver and you will see Ronnie throw the ball to him. The worse that can happen is an incomplete pass, especially the way Ronnie throws the ball in practice.

If that was the case, they could have kept McCown. You don't need a tough running QB for the Wildcat to work, you just need an athletic one with above average passing skills. If we draft someone like West Virginia's Pat White, then you know something is up their collective sleeves.

the author is a moron, that would be unecessarry roughness and that player would be fined, and that would be a real cheapshot.
