He's been in this situation before at BYU.
His 1st year, he was thrown in, and his first 3 plays were fumble, incomplete, interception. He struggled during his playing time the 1st year, but showed potential. Some fans were haters, and were screaming for the backup, whoever that may have been. Obviously discouraging to a young QB, but he continued to work hard and do the best he could.
2nd year, struggled with a failing coaching staff, poor offensive decisions, poor teamwork around him. Coaches all fired at year-end. Obviously discouraging to a young QB, but he continued to work hard and do the best he could.
3rd year, new coaching staff, new schemes, team discipline, BYU obviously on the upswing. Beck looks good, but the team improvement is what allowed him to develop and shine.
4th year, dominates defenses, impresses everyone, gets drafted 2nd round into the NFL, unfortunately to a team falling apart at the seams.
1st year in NFL, gets thrown in too early, by poor coaches, into tough games with poor talent and depth around him. Many fans see a young QB struggle, but also see potential if he could stand behind a good line, with a 1st string QB behind him, and more than 1 good reciever, who was a rookie.
Beck will wade through all the BS of his rookie year and come out swinging. I have no doubt that the coaches see his potential, and want him to succeed. He will succeed, he has all the tools, and he has the work ethic.
I feel bad that he has to hear the hate though.
Sincerely,
Zaphod
