I'm as pleased as the rest of you guys of how Pennington has picked up this offense and shown leadership as well as has played well and given hope to this offense this season. I like his short and intermediate passes and good accuracy. He also seemed to have more zip to his throws, which some have said it is because of his mechanics using more of his body and it might also be because it takes 2 years many times for such an injury that he faced and his shoulder is now getting back possibly. But anywhoo, the one thing I wish I saw or hope to see this last preseason game, is Pennington throwing a deep pass and how he does with that or Ginn open deep and having Pennington throw it. I don't mean a 50 yard bomb, but 30 or 40, as I know he doesn't have a rocket arm, obviously, but I think 35 yard passes are deep enough most of the time, especially if the WR catching them is fast like Ginn.

I hope to see Pennington throw a 35 yard pass over the shoulder swiftly and not floating up to long. I'm hoping the mechanics and progress of more umph to his throws or would like to see if that can carry over to a deeper pass, (30 yard), but not necessarily a bomb. I just hope he can do decent, because while he's doing well with Ginn in intermediate passes. I hope Ginn getting open deep is utilized by Pennington being able to get Ginn the ball with a deep pass, to give the big play dynamic to Miami and not simply moving the chains, but a threat for the big play. So hopefully Ginn's deep speed won't be wasted, as we have seen some WRs efforts wasted going deep from being weak armed or inaccurate deep. Didn't mean to write a novel..

I wouldn't be surprised if we see him try it at least once in Week 1.

Ginn might be lining up against Lowery, a rookie, because Miller has a dislocated toe now. There's no way that Lowery can hang with that speed.

Refer to my thread about the Pennington ney-sayers. This is exactly what I was talking about.

He can throw a deep pass fine - 30-40 yards or so. It's not something you'll see a lot of, but he can do it fine. He doesn't like to throw those passes unless he has wide open receivers.

The questions with arm strength since the shoulder surgeries have always been hitting the deep outs, and fitting the ball into tight spots. He won't try to throw these type of passes very often.

That's how he can potentially limit your passing game. He doesn't like to take many risks and knows he can't make some of the throws without potentially throwing an INT. You're going to see a guy who throws mostly high percentage passes that don't always move the sticks.

Yeah, but I thought of this question Sunday, but just didn't feel like posting it at the time, so your question posted before mine wasn't going to stop me from posting this one...just playin, I will check your thread, because I obviously didn't read it.

That's what worries me though is the air under the passes that I saw from his last year, where it gives time for dbs to intercept on the floater or the Wrs to get killed. Hopefully with his improved mechanics and shoulder, he will at least have less hang time on some of his deep passes.

Why do it in the pre-season?

Well I was hoping to see if he can make deep passes or attempt them when it doesn't matter. Or get a glimpse in just the exhibition games, before finding out from Miami's passes being short in the regular season or interceptions or incompletions from too much air under from not having the arm to the deep passes. I was just hoping so I could know beforehand, while I'm feeling good about Pennington and if he can't do it, at least I will know and not my hopes abruptly go down suddenly when seeing it in the season. Basically I hope to see a preview of Pennington coming from the Preseason regarding the deep pass, so I know what he has.
