One of my local sportscasters loves Pat Devlin

Pat Murphy, who works for the Palm Beach CBS affiliate, has a man crush on Devlin and believes that he could be the guy if Henne fails.

He also said Devlin has a "cannon arm". Maybe somebody else wrote the report.

Devlin was listed 4th (last) on the first depth chart of the preseason behind Kevin O'Connell. Do you guys think Devlin will make this team? Because keeping him on the practice squad doesn't seem like the greatest bet.
 
That is the first time I have heard someone say Devlin has a cannon arm... Most reports say he has an average arm... I am confident he is the #3 QB going into the season though...
 
He wont last on the Practice Squad, he has too be our 3rd QB............

Devlin has an average arm but is very accurate. If he is better then McConnell he'll make the final 53. But being better then McConnel is not saying much. Being better then Moore doesn't even excite me.
 
Devlin is our UDFA - Tony Romo project, a player that could shock a lot of people out of nowhere after sitting for 4 years. I believe your local sportscaster has mixed up Devlin's quick release with cannon for an arm. Devlin can use the time to build up his arm strength much like A.Rodgers did in his time sitting behind Farve.

Rodgers had a frozen rope of an arm in college. Devlin has above average arm strength and has a fantastic release. He does not stare down recievers and knows how to go through the progressions naturally, kind of makes it look easy, it's hard to teach this just ask Henne. He actually reminds me a lot of phil simms. Real smart kid with the accuracy, athletic tools and a mindset to be great. Man I'm high on this kid.
 
I think Miami needs a guy capable of coming in immediately in case of emergency. If Devlin shows the poise in preseason and shows improvement in practice . . . I think he sticks as the #3. I think people are overrating him a bit though. Miami has one of the worst QB situations in the league . . . I don't see a bunch of teams trying to sign a guy to their roster when he has been cut by the Dolphins. Teams had 7 rounds to get him and passed.
 
his mom also likes him alot. Kind of shows the sad state of qb affairs here when e are excited by an UDFA. Starnger things have happened even though its likley he will be on practice squad week 1 . Would not mind being pleasently suprised and I did like him as a signing as well as Josh Portis who signed with the seahawks.

If your man says that Devlin has a "cannon arm" then that's about all I need to know as far as your man's credibility in evaluating quarterbacks. Sorry.

Keep in mind "average arm" is usually the nice way of saying "below average arm".

Why does every UDFA get to be Tony Romo? Most are Tom Brandstater. Just saying.
