Lets be frank. Miami would really, really like to move down in this draft. In fact, I have a feeling they would be willing to take fifty cents on the dollar to do so.
Here is what I mean.
I have really wondered whether there is any chance Miami can move out of number one without simply letting the time lapse and letting a few teams slide in ala the Minnesota Vikings when they drafted Kevin Williams.
As a result, I have become convinced that only a highly emotional, impulsive and nearsighted GM would be willing to move up. I am also convinced that nobody will swap with us for McFadden or Ryan or Dorsey or J. Long. The first two because the Rams won't take them. The third because of the injury concerns. And the fourth because I just don't think he is as good as advertised.
As a result, that leaves one player. Chris Long. Given that, I think there is only one team who has a need coupled with a highly emotional, impulsive and nearsighted GM. That would be the Oakland Raiders.
Think about it. Given Al Davis's infatuation with the Raider's and their organizational history, I cannot think of a player he feels should be an Oakland Raider more than Chris Long.
Now, I don't think Davis is stupid. Impulsive and emotional? Yes. Stupid? Na. So, that is why I think he would be reluctant to go by the outdated trade chart created in a time when first round money was reasonable.
As a result, I think it is at least possible that Miami could move from one to four and pick up the Raiders second. According to the trade chart, that would be fifty cents on the dollar for Miami. Nevertheless, I think it would be for the best.
The bottom line is that Miami really needs to be willing to take a hit by the trade chart to get something done. Now, that does not mean that you give up your leverage and sell out by letting everyone know you are willing to do this. However, I think it needs to be an option.
What do you think? Do you think this trade is at least theoretically possible as I do? Would you be willing to take fifty cents on the dollar to move to four and pick up another second?
