We all keep passing over the fact that Olindo Mare is not himself anymore. he was 9/12 from 30-39 yards last year. Thats pathetic honestly. Kicking 75% from that close is not good enough. Also considering how many field goals would have changed the outcome of the game. Im forgetting right now but it may have been the New England game where we would have won if he hit his field goals.

He kicked a little better this past year but it was still bad kicking 83.3% compared to the 90% he had early in his career. He was good from 40-49 yards going 6-6 but there were just too many times he choked on big kicks in the early 4th quarter or end of the 3rd. I'm not that comfortable with him kicking with our season on the line from 30-39 yards knowing 1 out of 4 times he will miss that kick.

I still have faith in Mare. As the offense continues to improve and gives him opportunities he will convert a high percentage and get more and more comfortable as well. Actually I would say he is the least of our offensive worries and when you take our 3rd-down D into account he falls even further down the list of areas of concern.

let me say this, i'd rather have mare, than the pats gramatica...

Mare is still top 10 in the league stop hating. Mare will be great this season watch he is gonna come through like the vet that he is.

Mare may not have been Superman the last few years but I'd still rather have him out there kicking than most of the guys out there who have nerves of plastic. Mare has missed some, but I've seen him make more clutch kicks than most could hope to so I am fine sticking with him.

So everyone doesnt remember Joe Nedney... I mean mare aint the best but he his still pretty good, he his prolly the best in theAFC east

Mare, to me at least, is still a top 10 kicker in the league..

OK.. Maybe he is not as clutch as he has been, but he is still very good, and when you factor in his length on kick-offs and the edge that gives us on STs there isn't a lot of guys I would want instead (And none who is avaliable)

Absolutely rediculous thread. I love those who diss Mare then can't think of a replacement (because there isn't any) and especially come down on him despite being one of the best in the league in kickoffs (if not the best).

Also Mare had his 4th best season for accuracy ever with 83.3 percent of field goals made and his best since 2001's 90.5% (which is his career high). Lets not forget that while your talking about 3 missed field goals between 30-39 he was 100% accurate from 40-49 and made 1 of his 2 from beyond the 50.

Those 3 missed field goals in the 30-39 range also came in 2 of 3 games that Miami won and that 1 lost was by NE, Miami lost by 7. He also kicked 4 out of 5 field goals in the one game. The one missed in the NE game was in the 2nd quarter. So tell me how that was game losing kick??

Lets not forget that there are times he has to kick off the dirt which other teams try to avoid at home games early in the season.

Quite frankly you 'choked' on your condemnation of Mare.

And replace him with who?

BTW, completely off-topic, but what was with San Diego drafting another kicker this year?
