With the regression or lack of progression with Ginn this team really needs a diamond in the rough for a receiver group that needs help in the worst way. One stat jumped off the page when I was reviewing the receivers and that was Hartline’s 16.3 yards a catch average.
In comparison here is how that stacked up in the NFL this season for all Wide Receivers (I threw out anyone with less then 10 catches and this is only WR).
That average is a pretty damn good average for a rookie who didn’t get great reviews. Hell the last Dolphin receiver to average over 16y/r with over 10 receptions was Marty Booker in 05. With the current situation many people (myself included) said “oh Ginn would be a great deep threat if we had a true #1 WR”.
I am starting to re-think my philosophy, changing my tune so to speak, an old dog in need of a new bone to chew on (**** learning new tricks it is overrated, I know how to execute my tricks perfectly ha!).
I say let Hartline line up as the number 2 receiver and stick Bess in the slot and now you have two guys playing what seems to be a natural position to them. I wouldn’t give the spot to Hartline of course you press the kid in camp with competition but it seems to me if he wants that position it is his to take next season and at least to this cat he has proven he is at least willing to take a hit, something Ginn is criticized about constantly along with everything else.
The offense needs a true number 1 no doubt and what the answer to that question is, well……..I guess we find out at the start of next season but I can tell you our host receivers are more then adequate as long as they build on the level of play they had this year. I hope Hartline is that diamond we need so desperately in the wide outs along with a few others gems we need to find this off season.
