With the regression or lack of progression with Ginn this team really needs a diamond in the rough for a receiver group that needs help in the worst way. One stat jumped off the page when I was reviewing the receivers and that was Hartline’s 16.3 yards a catch average.

In comparison here is how that stacked up in the NFL this season for all Wide Receivers (I threw out anyone with less then 10 catches and this is only WR).

  • Chris Henry – 12 rec, 19.7ave
  • Mike Wallace – 39 rec, 19.4ave
  • DeSean Jackson – 63 rec, 18.5ave
  • Mohamed Massaquoi – 34 rec, 18.4ave
  • Malcom Floyd – 45 rec, 17.2ave
  • Vincent Jackson – 68 rec, 17.2ave
  • Brandon Stokley – 19 rec, 17.2ave
  • Chris Chambers – 36 rec, 16.9ave
  • Patrick Crayton – 37 rec, 16.8ave
  • Hakeem Nicks – 47 rec, 16.8ave
  • Kenny Britt – 42 rec, 16.7ave
  • Greg Jennings – 68 rec, 16.4ave
  • Sam Aiken – 20 rec, 16.3ave
  • Miles Austin – 81 rec, 16.3ave
  • Pierre Garcon – 47 rec, 16.3ave
  • Brian Hartline – 31 rec, 16.3ave

That average is a pretty damn good average for a rookie who didn’t get great reviews. Hell the last Dolphin receiver to average over 16y/r with over 10 receptions was Marty Booker in 05. With the current situation many people (myself included) said “oh Ginn would be a great deep threat if we had a true #1 WR”.

I am starting to re-think my philosophy, changing my tune so to speak, an old dog in need of a new bone to chew on (**** learning new tricks it is overrated, I know how to execute my tricks perfectly ha!).

I say let Hartline line up as the number 2 receiver and stick Bess in the slot and now you have two guys playing what seems to be a natural position to them. I wouldn’t give the spot to Hartline of course you press the kid in camp with competition but it seems to me if he wants that position it is his to take next season and at least to this cat he has proven he is at least willing to take a hit, something Ginn is criticized about constantly along with everything else.

The offense needs a true number 1 no doubt and what the answer to that question is, well……..I guess we find out at the start of next season but I can tell you our host receivers are more then adequate as long as they build on the level of play they had this year. I hope Hartline is that diamond we need so desperately in the wide outs along with a few others gems we need to find this off season.

For what it is worth.................

I like Harline alot..

He has very good hands..He is not afraid of contact Cough cough (Ted Ginn)

He also is deceptivley faster than his 40 time...

He looked awful fast in a few of the games...

Except when Tracy Porter tracked him down.. but that guy is a burner

I like Hartline alot..Lets hope he can stay healthy

I didn't like the Hartline selection at all during the draft, but the guy has really changed my opinion this year. As the stats show, he was our best big play threat last year. You can easily tell that this is a guy who genuinely LOVES playing football, his play on special teams this year affirms that.

I'd be a little uneasy handing him a starting spot next year so hopefully we can land a true number 1 receiver somehow, or draft Dez Bryant to help the receiving corp.

Hartline reminds me a lot of Miles Austin. I think the Front Office will give him a shot at being the #1 WR down the line.

I think this kid has the potential to be the next Ed McCaffery if we can find ourselves a tru number 1. Hartline I can see as a receiver that doesn't put up guady numbers but can make plays when they call on him. To be completely honest i think if we kept all the guys we got now and just add a number 1 we will be very dangerous. Like him or not, I think Teddy Ginn can still make plays if given the opportunity. Continuity is key and I think this current receiving core did a damn good job given we had a 1st year starter in Henne.

I like Hartline, he will be a very good WR for us. I am really glad the FO took Henne with them and let him throw to the WR's from the draft and let him give his input.

Over the last few years i got to know a couple of OSU fans and they convinced me before the season that Hartline was the real deal.

Yea I think the kid can play. He showed more in his first year then any other young WR the Dolphins have had in years, maybe since Welker.

I just hope he turns into that Welker type receiver – now that would be perfect.

I love hartline, this kid is just a baller period it wouldnt suprise me too see him pull a welker and kick an xp or punt the ball if something ever happened. BTW that was welker right?

hartline is going to be a star for us. he has solidified the #2 spot. when we look back in a few years we will be thanking parcells and co. about drafting him. i say its safe to order your hartline jerseys now.

Lets just hope he don't get injured before the playoffs next year.

I really like Hartline but I don't think he's another McCaffery

McCaffery 6-5 215
Hartline 6-2 190

I would say he's more like a taller version of Brandon Stokley 5-11 190

Ahhhh...the classic compare a white guy to a white guy. I cant stand it. Why cant he be the next Greg Jennings?
