Please note this is only my opinion but I'm expecting big news on Matt Roth in the coming days or week. The Roth mystery will come to an end and the truth will be told.

This is an example of the news I'm expecting :

"ROTH TRADED"
"ROTH OUT FOR THE SEASON"

Because of how well Taylor is playing in roth's absence, and great training camp performance by other linebackers : Torbor, Anderson, Wake, etc..I think Roth has become expandable and could be traded when healthy to Tampa Bay or even Green Bay with Capers as the DC.

I'd expect "ROTH OUT FOR THE SEASON" before I would any trade. His groin probably wouldn't pass a physical at this point.

I also would agree that our depth, at this point, isn't that great to begin with.

he's our best run defender at LB. that certainly doesn't make him invaluable, but i still doubt we'd trade him. there's too much uncertainty defending the run with Taylor and Moses playing SOLB.

Roth will go on IR if and only if he can't play for an extended period of time. if he isn't 100 % on opening day, but would be at any point during the early part of the year, he makes it on the roster IMO.

Jason Taylor has yet to play a meaningful down in Roth's absence at SOLB. Torbor is an ILB and Anderson and Wake have been working on the weakside. If Matt Roth isn't a Dolphin in 2009, I expect our run defense to drop significantly.

I don't know if he is going to be traded, but I agree that there is alot more to the situation than what we have heard either from Sparano or Roth. I definitely leaning to the idea that he is going to be put on IR. JMHO.

I believe we would bench him and not resign him at the end of the year before we trade or IR him. He's managed to get in Sparano's dog house, but i dont think its so much that we'd not use him eventually during the season.

He can go on the PUP list and come back later in the season if healthy, or be placed on IR midway through if not able to go.

Agreed a Groin is not a season ending injury this early in the season, Keep him where he's at until he heals then they can activate him when he's ready to play again. As far as resigning him, I think that boat has sailed.:err:

They should sticky a thread that explains to people the difference between SOLB, WOLB, and the ILB's for those who won't spend the time to learn the difference themselves. With some of these posts you would think this is the first year Miami has used the 3-4.

And Roth has yet to play a meaningful down at SOLB since JT has returned!!! So what, what does that prove. Taylor has always been better vs the run than what he was giving credit for. Maybe he isn't quite as good as Roth vs the run but he is twice as good vs the pass. He is a better all around player.

Now don't get me wrong, I would love to see Roth come back healthy so JT can come in fresh off the bench to just rush the passer, but right now that isn't possible. I don't see a drop off in the defense with JT rather than Roth. If Wake can come in on 3rd and long to rush the passer we are probably better off than if Roth was playing.

The sky isn't falling. We will be fine.

What?:ponder:

Didn't we have a top 5 run defense while JT was on the team? I'm pretty sure he would be just fine against the run.

Bottom line is Roth lied to Sparano and is in the dog house. Especially if he has true groin injury and didnt tell the staff. In one way I can see Roth concerned if he said something about the injury Taylor would have the opportunity to take the spot, on the other hand what is happening now is what happens when you are not truthful, meaning Taylor gets the spot anyway and Roth will probably be traded. I know if I had a player lying to me I wouldnt want him playing for me. Not only can he hurt himself more but it would most likely hurt the team. I am sure, to Sparano, that is not a team player, sorry to say but cya Roth.
