I mean... why would they? How would trading for Trent Green possibly be worth it at this point? It would be stupid to trade for him.

I mean, as I write this, it is the 18th of May. The Chiefs MUST cut him on June 1st. So why trade for him? To get him on the Fins 12 days sooner? How would that even be worth a draft pick? I mean, what would he do in those 12 days that would have any significant impact? There arnt going to be any mini-camps between now and June 1st. The next mini-camp will be in June... and we would have him by then...

So really? What motivation would Mueller have to trade for him? It would be a waste of a draft pick.

Good thing. I never wanted Mueller to give up a draft pick for Green.

I am pretty sure a large part or all of his contract gets put towards the salary cap if he isnt released by June 1st. If they keep him past June 1st... they might as well just keep him all of next year...

Plus, if he gets seriously hurt during a practice or in the weight room... the 7.2 mil becomes guarenteed...

They cant possibly keep him past June 1st...

How about the motivation that Green could use the leverage of being able to negotiate with every team as opposed to just the Fins if he were traded to get the Fins to ante up on his contract ?? How about the fact that KC doesn't have to trade him on June 1 ?? They can wait to trade him until they get ready to sign their rookies ??

There is still motivation for us to deal with them before he's cut...

Nasty...that's a good point about where the cap hit will go depending on "when" the cut is made.. I will look forward to learning more about that "timing"... BUT, it is off to the salt mines for me, everyone have a good day!

Whether Miami trades for him or waits for him to be cut is up in the air.. One thing that's for sure is Cameron really wants him bad.. He coached him 12 years ago in Washington when Cam was the QB there.. Green has the abilities to run this system. He gets throws off quickly, makes fast decisions, and is a better thrower for timing routes.. All 3 things Culpepper sucks at..

Culpepper is good in an offense that just goes back there and slings it.. Like the Oakland offense .. For an offense as detailed as the Coryell offense, Culpepper is just totally useless on all levels.. He does not have the ability to run such an offense

Green being the starter next year in Miami is a sure thing as a sure thing can possibly get..

I heard 9-mil against the Chiefs cap. We'll get him for nothing as soon as he's released.Nice doin' business with you K.C.

Green has already said hes only going to renegotiate his contract with the fins.

We really need to get away from the senior citizen QB's, and use what we already have on our roster for now. A healthy culpepper is better than green anyday.

At first read I thought you thought it would be stupid to not only trade for him, but even aquire him..So I was going to say that at this point I think it would be stupid, after all this waiting and debating, that the fins wouldnt aquire him..Kind of a waste of time and energy wouldnt you say. But after reading more of your post i think you were meaning that we shouldnt give up a pick and instead just wait for him to be released which I completely agree with...The thing is that the Chiefs dont have to release him by June 1st to pay him unless it states that the team must pay him by then in his contract

"Under the NFL's agreement with the NFLPA, (with a few rare exceptions) the salary cap effects of guaranteed payments to players are prorated over the term of a contract. A $10 million dollar signing bonus on a four year contract counts as $2.5 million towards the cap during each of those four years. If a player retires, is traded, or is cut before June 1st, all remaining bonus is applied to the salary cap for the current season. If after June 1st, the current cap is unchanged, and the next year's cap must absorb the entire remaining bonus.
Because of this treatment, NFL contracts almost always include the right to cut a player before the beginning of a season. If a player is cut, his salary for the remainder of his contract is not paid, and never counted against the salary cap for that team. A highly sought-after player signing a long term contract will usually receive a guaranteed signing bonus, thus providing him with financial security even if he is cut before the end of his contract."

So I guess it only matter what it states in his contract...However, if he gets injured at any point during any of the camps KC must pay him his salary and thats something they cannot afford to do as LJ wants a payday and may hold out this year if he doesnt get it...

But i agree with you..at this point we should just wait until he is released. Then we can sit back and laugh at what that would do to Carls ego (and job) as he could have had a 6th months ago but waited for nothing...

The June 1st cut thing has become a thing of the past. It has been reported already that they can keep the same cap number regardless of cutting him before or after June 1st. They will be able to cut him right before the first game of the year with the same cap ramifications. There might be some rush to get this trade done on both sides...but June 1st does not come into the equation.

I don't think June 1st will be part of the equation when dealing with Green. If it were, we wouldn't need to trade for him at all, like you already stated....

As it stands right now however, the Cheifs can hold onto Green until September until letting him walk. Taking that into consideration, Mueller / Cameron may need to execute a trade afterall. I think a 2008 5th rounder should do the job....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

Well the whole thing of this is Trent Green is going to attend OTA's in KC. The reason is that this will leverage the team into getting rid of him because of the remote possibility of himing getting hurt for the season they'd have to pay him the entire 7.2 million which of course they wouldn't want to do.

Thank You a thread that makes some sense why is people all of the sudden high on this green guy, he puts up numbers in the reg. season but sucks in the playoffs, the guy is dam near 40, i'm gald we didn't trade for him, a health C-pep is better, i funny how C-pep was rushed back on the field with a line that was giving up almost 4 sacks a game, basically only a few rec's, he would of been MVP if peyton didn,t break Marino's touchdown record, if just funny how people are just tossing him to the curb, i always got to this quote made by Sam wilcox on the nfl network, " Green is like a candle on blow and he's out",
