Maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part, hoping for an antidote to what has been a relatively hum-drum start to free agency, but I really believe there's something big in the works.

Here are the lines of evidence, which you guys are familiar with, that I believe suggest this.

1) A major amount of hush-hush regarding our free agency moves. Yes, this is a BP regime, but they're being even more secretive than last year.

2) We still have a tremendous amount of cap space left, and we're required to spend a certain amount of it (3/4?).

3) The Dolphins have said they are not interested in Coles. This is probably despite a lot of pressure from Pennington to get him. Nor are they interested in TJ. They're sort of waffling on Harrison, but it doesn't look like there's anything really solid there.

4) Drew Rosenhaus is quite certain the Dolphins use their 1st round pick on a WR.

5) It's no secret the Dolphins want a #1 receiver, NOT a *potential* #1 receiver who will probably take several years to develop. Plus, BP usually doesn't think there is good value in WRs in the first round.

6) Vonnie got released. Why? Presumably to free up space for signings. But we already have a good amount of cap space. Unless that space is already earmarked for something else.

I think we swing the trade for Boldin - I think it's in the works and the FO, Boldin, Drew, etc. all know about it. Who knows what the trade will be and what Boldin's contract will be, but this really seems like it is going to happen.

Of course, the least interesting scenario is the Fins are just saving up all this cap space to sign a horde of 2nd tier FAs whose price will continue to fall the longer they remain unsigned. But personally, I'm starting to think there is something bigger in the works. Whether it includes Boldin is another question, but it does seem like the most likely of "big moves" that could be in the works.

Just my $0.02.

This regime is impossible to predict, so people need to stop with their "master plan" threads.

I can't help but think a big thing that would hold up a Boldin trade is BP not wanting to deal with SuperDrew!

I posted a thread similiar to this yesterday. People dont realize Miami is required by league rules to spend a portion of the Cap. They still have rough 18 mil in available cap, hello NE has 14 and they are being rumored to trade for Peppers. Either they are going to sign more FA or we are working something out.

If Boldin was traded a deal would probably be in place already. BP had to deal with Drew for the signing of Yeremiah Bell and we were able to resign him. Drew has nothing to do in this.

Im not excatly on this "something big in the works" scenerio. I believe we had a heck of a year last year.. alot of guys showed and played some good ball. Just perhaps the coaching staff doesn't feel like we need 20 new players. Maybe 10 to a dozen. We'll see.

Im starting to expect us to not do anything this free agency.. and the excitement to come by way of the draft.. yea .. I'm a draft homer free agency... But there is so little talk.. like none.. I don't think anything escapes the media these days. If we were in serious contention with Arizona we'd know about it.

Why?? Isn't that what the forums for.....fun....

I'll be sure just to cut and paste the news from cnnsi in the threads if thats not the case....

Actually, I've read that GM's have alot of respect for Rosenhaus. Drew is a guy that likes to get things done, and they like that, even though he fights for every penny he can get for his client.

Jimmy Johnson has been on record stating that he enjoys doing business w/ Drew.

I simply just can't get past the fact that it will take both big money and DP's to get Boldin, a guy that if he were the best player in the NFL would only touch the ball 10 times a game MAX, I know for a fact Boldin isn't the best player in the NFL which means he will probably only touch the ball 5 or 6 times a game, does anyone honestly believe BP will give up so much for one player who would only contribute 6 times a week? I don't! But I've been wrong before, I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens, but If I had a guess, I would say it aint gonna happen.

I really hope we just sign a real solid CB (Bartell please) and I really would like to give Coles a look. I think it's important to give Pennington a guy that when everything is on the line he can go to with 100% confidence he'll make the play. Maybe Ginn will get there but we know the success Pennington had in the past with Coles.

I feel we need a CB too, but we also need a NT and C, question is, who does the FO think we need the most and what are the best chances of filling one of those positions with a starter? Remember, we could trade for one of those players too.

Shaun Rogers from Cleveland would be nice for the NT spot.

The cutting of Vonnie Holiday created a cap hit of $2.5 million.

I don't think TJ is a #1 receiver and Marvin Harrison is done. I wouldn't mind Coles at a decent price. I don't think we will trade for Boldin. We will not be willing to meet Arizona's asking price.

Well there is more to it than just how many time he touches the ball. Defenses have to account for him, so with him and Ginn, it creates match up problems for defenses. And if out of those 6 touches you get 5 first downs and a TD... I'm all for it.
