(Opinion) Trey Lance To The Dolphins?

If Miami is going to trade for a new backup qb, there has to be better options than Lance. I'm not saying Lance has no chance at becoming a decent reserve qb in the NFL, but there has to better options. I would tade for Mac Jones before Trey Lance. I might even go as far as saying I would call Denver and trade for Zac Wilson before trading for Lance. Not against the post or poster, just don't think it's a very good idea.

This is actually part of the problem with our backups - they don’t fit our offense. It was one of my frustrations with McD when Tua was injured. He didn’t adjust the offense when Bridgewater or Thompson were playing.
McD didn't adjust for anything that first season. He was playing Madden.

The dude is super raw as a Quarterback. I can't hate on the guy for leaving early to get that top draft pick cheddar, before NILs were a thing, but he barely played QB for a D-II school. 318 passing attempts over 3 years(not full seasons played but still)

Even 4 years into the league he's still timid and checks down. He has the tools, but can't process comfortably enough at a NFL level.

I can't see Jerry moving on this quickly after trading a 4th for him last year. Odds are they'll stash him as the #3 and then he walks for free in 2025.
Right. He's a high caliber athlete with a good arm, but that's it. None of the other skills are there. He needs a lot of work, especially in processing.

He could work in certain packages, like the push play. Might actually fit the one read and run approach somewhat.

I dunno if it’s Lance on waivers or someone else but the position I’m most worried about on this football team is the backup QB spot.

With the O-line we’ve already seen than McD and Barry can at least get it done with smoke and mirrors but as it currently stands, we can pretty much plan on losing each game Tua’s not available should an injury happen.

The backup QB spot is even more worrisome with the players we have on the offensive line. Tua best sling that ball quick!

I'd consider picking him up off of waivers, but I wouldnt sink any assets into trading for him.

I think, could be wrong, McDaniel was still a part of the SF team when they were scouting this kid, he might want to take a look at him.

Agree. I threw Lance's name out there as well as Malik Willis.

Agree 100% on Zac Wilson. He had a worse HC/OC/Oline situation at Jets to start his career than Tua and he didn’t get as high level of coaching at collegiate level either.

Zach played loose with a smile on his face at BYU. He needs that for his game to thrive and would pair well with McD’s personality instead of hard asses like Saleh and Payton. And yes, McD could adapt plays around Zach’s strengths if he had to sub in for Tua such as the reports of a lot more rolls outs in camp.

No thanks to Mac. I liked him more than most coming out of college but I wasn’t expecting him to be such a damn dirty player.

If he's cut then yes. I wouldn't even give a 7th for him.

I wish we woulda drafted... Joe Milton.

Don't tell any Pats fans I said that tho, if they ask, tell them I think he sucks.

A team that is extremely well coached and turned Brock Purdy in to a star, cast him off after investing the #3 pick in him.

So why are we talking about him??
Because White and Thompson are awful.

You look for anything else with a heartbeat that might have more upside with a better scheme fit or coaching. But only if he's cut. No reason to trade for him.

His throwing mechanics are questionable. He often puts his receivers in dangerous 50-50 situations. So, I would definitely steer clear of him.
