I don't believe the Dolphins Organization will retire Zach Thomas number or for that matter Jason Taylor's number either.

Blashphemy ? :err:

:shakeno:

Only 3 numbers have been retired in the history of the Dolphins, Bob Griese (SuperBowl QB) #12, Hall of Famer, Dan Marino (SuperBowl QB Hall of Famer NFL Record Holder) #13, Larry Csonka (SuperBowl MVP Hall of Famer) #39.

Now after Larry Csonka left in 1974 for the World Football Leauge he did come back in 1979 played 1 season with the Dolphins and retired as a Dolphin. All three retired as Dolphins all three are in the Hall of Fame.

Zach Thomas was released, waived, cut whatever you want to call it, and he did not play in a Super Bowl and based on his Miami Dolphins tenure will not sniff the Hall of Fame. If Jason Taylor is traded he will be in the same boat as Zach.

Players don't get numbers retired because they were fan favorites or because they had sexy stats. Players get numbers retired because they were so extraordinary that no other player could possibly were that number. Look around the NFL at retired numbers:

http://football.about.com/od/nflhistory/l/bl_retirednmbrs.htm

When you study the list you realize the Dolphins take retiring numbers very seriously while other teams have retired legions of numbers.

The Tennesse Titans have #34 retired because of Earl Campbell. But Earl never played for the Titans and the Titans fled Houston and changed everything about the franchise. The Housten Texans in Housten have zero number retired.

I am confused. I have spent 1 hour writing this post.

So you may or may not see #54 running around in the future.

NOW IM DONE :beer1:

Thank You only LEGENDS get there numbers retired. Have you checked out the list in the thread Check out the Bears
Chicago Bronko Nagurski 3 George McAfee 5 George Halas 7 Willie Galimore 28 Walter Payton 34 Gale Sayers 40 Brian Piccolo 41 Sid Luckman 42 Dick Butkus 51 Bill Hewitt 56 Bill George 61 Clyde "Bulldog" Turner 66 Red Grange 77
thats a little extreme!

Minny retired Chris Carter's Number 80 :sidelol:

Zach will always be remembered as one of the best Linebackers this team has ever known. He won't be forgotten in the years to come, so It doesn't bother me that his number won't be retired.

If you post an opinion, please note it in the thread title.

there was already a long post on this subject- the hour you spent- well lets just say i already posted the above names and facts.....

houston is a expansion team- new owner, new team- they have nothing to do with the oilers
the titans hasnt been a expansion team since they came into the league as the oilers in 1960

They shouldn't get their #'s retired. Has Mcduffie or WEBB gotten theirs retired?

ROH definitely, retired #'s? Nah

Are you seriously comparing JT and ZT to mcduffie and Webb? Mcduffie was good but there are maybe 4-5 other dolphins we that are better then him. Webb was great but he's an o-lineman and he'd have to be like a top 5 linemen of all time to have his # retired. Meanwhile I think Zach is the best linebacker to ever wear aqua and orange and JT one of the best d-linemen to ever play...

Hey Slippery....you are forgetting that the Chicago Bears were one of the original NFL teams......they have been around about 40 years longer than the Phins so they should have many more retired numbers. I think you are wrong when you say Zach won't sniff the Hall of Fame...he has more tackles than any LB currently in the Hall. I believe Junior Seau is the only player in NFL history with more tackles. Zach has more pro bowls than any other defensive player in Miami history. I think #54 and JT's #99 will eventually be retired by the Phins.

Zach Thomas is one of the greatest linebackers to ever play the game, his production over the years speaks for itself, so that's a fact. Just because he wasn't a sexy player for the media, like Urlacher or Lewis doesn't mean he doesn't deserve recognition by the organization as an all time great. He's one of the most underrated players of our time, and apparently even by some of our own fans, like this TS? Pathetic really... I wish i could vote -5 stars on this thread.
