Am wondering if any of you have an opinion on what differences we might expect from an offensive scheme perspective. I posted several times last season regarding the lack of scoring, scheme etc...Does Lazor bring a difference? Do you think we will raise our PPG? Will we finally have some identity as a team? (power run, fast break, multiple formations , screens...) who knows Lazor well enough to speculate what we can expect? We didnt seem able to score more than 20 pts. a game consistently and then the last 2 games....ugh

I dont think will have any effect on the offensive scheme. However he will collaborate with Philban and Lazor and bring in guys that fit what they want instead of who he just likes. Lazor is gonna be the difference in how the offense is executed by getting the most out of what they have. Other than the line the offence is gonna be mostly the same and they are piecing together a line to follow the same scheme as last year but just execute it better.

Umm... the new OC is Lazer... not Hickey.

True...my bad...was reading while typing and made an error...but thanks for the clarification..I suppose it's better than no comment to the overall subject

Will Lazer install his offense or run Philbin offense?

I agree with Fishbanger. He will have to adapt to our lack of talent, especially at oline and RB.
Just having the play calling change will be a tremendous improvement. Shermin was beyond unexplainable sometimes. Almost a frustrating as the crypt keeper Henning.

Lazor understands how Philadelphia rapidly became a high powered fast moving Offense. Whether any of that can be replicated, we wait and see. If the O-line deficiencies can be addressed, Tannehill will have more time to make better passes. The O-line is also the key to improving the running game. Hickey has a good track record of finding RB talent in the Draft and there appear to be some excellent prospects like Bishop Sankey, Carlos Hyde, and others.
Lazor is also the key to improving the calling the plays. Sherman was at times, painfully predictable and some close games were lost with dreadful play calling. I live in hope that Lazor can be a significant improvement. He should also be good for Ryan Tannehill's development. Sherman appeared too close to Tannehill and was overly protective and too conservative. Ryan has good athleticism but we hardly saw it.

If the O-line deficiencies can be addressed

That really depends on how deep into the zone-read/option rabbit hole Lazor goes. THE key component in a zone-read/option blocking scheme is that you let their best defensive lineman go and he becomes your read. If the read crashes then the QB gives the ball to the RB. If the read holds, the QB keeps it. You can go even more complex if there is a read in the second or third level involved, with either a second keep/toss run read or a run-pass option depending on how the defensive backfield looks. Georgia Tech did that a lot (by which I mean, all of the above) with Megatron and Demaryius Thomas, which is why they racked up so many yards despite being the only WR on the field.

Basically what I'm getting at is that you can get by with a couple holes in your offensive line, so long as you're prepared to incorporate some maskirovka into your play calling.

Well, they were looking hard at Moreno as RB, and he's not really a short yardage specialist, so I don't see him as a complement to Miller. So why were they looking at him instead of someone like Blount? It can only be because they do want to put some more wrinkles in the game, and want their RB's to pass catch more, and do things Moreno was good at. I really do hope Lazor and Philbin get it together and make this offense work.

No more GO ... GO GO tipping off every play, hopefully.

I think they were interested in him as an every down back. He is a good blocker in pass protection..that would be his value to the team along with some solid carries.

That is (and hopefully was) the most pathetic cadence....and it is gone...gone...gone!
Being old enough to remember Greise, he could get a first down adjusting the cadence and the way he said the cadence with voice inflection.
It keeps the dline guessing and helps the running game by having the dline react to the oline instead of knowing when the snap was to occur. It is very subtle, but it can be important.
I would be great if RT could master that along with the play action fake that Moore does so well.
