If you could somehow get a guarantee that the Dolphins make the playoffs, but lose in the 1st round, would you take that now or would you favor letting the chips fall where they may, ranging from missing the playoffs to a super bowl victory?

Other than the Pats, I don't think there is a team out there right now that Miami should "expect" to lose to, and I think the Pat game will be barn-burning nailbiter. Seems the fans view of the team is a lot like their view of RT himself- tremendous upside, great expectations and optimism, but tempered or even jaded due to inconsistencies and past failures/letdowns.

The bottom line is that it is a fun roller coaster this year with the most exciting twists and turns yet to come and anyone's guess what it will be like.

I don't take the guaranteed "in but lose" scenario. If the team is good enough to get in they're good enough to win more. Look at a few years back when Seattle got in with a 7-9 or 8-8 record, faced the very good Saints, and won. Or the run the Giants went on a few years ago. Once you're in anything can happen.

This team is good enough to win a playoff game. It looks like if we get in, it will either be against Indy or the AFC North Representative. I think we could win either of those wild card rounds.

Interesting question. I'd have to lean on rolling the dice though. A play off berth, even losing in the first round, would be great but like others have said I believe that if we do make the play offs we have what it takes as a team to atleast win the WC round.

I don't care what the record is- get in the playoffs AND stay healthy. Let what will be will be from there

Philbin and company would take the guaranteed playoff with the first round loss. It would mean growth and another season for him. I personally would love to roll the dice. However, I want stability and that only happens if we don't fire all the coaches and look for a new QB.

For me let the chips fall where they may.
The history of the Super Bowl winners mostly show a pattern of teams that have had to work thru several years of playoff failures to finally win it all. Getting in and losing just prolongs that process another year. Rather get in and win in the wild card round and fail later.
It almost seems like teams have to pay their dues before they can advance to the next level of the playoffs. Look at Seattle and before that Baltimore. Even back when Miami won in 72-73 it was a several year process paying your dues.
Now there is one variation where I may consider taking the playoff appearance and immediate loss. If we were to win the division and gain one of the 2 byes. The upset loss would be devastating but would move us up the pay your dues list and set us up for at least the AFC Championship game next year if the usual progression occurred.

Thank you - for your comment - for your drawing...

The NFL is all about the Superbowl -I scratch my head when people on this site talk about making the playoffs.

If we are going to lose in the first round it makes the season meaningless - sorry folks....

Even the Superbowl loser is meaningless. Who did Seattle play last year.

Remember when the Patriots were 18 and ONE.

Nuff said - real NFL fans KNOW that this league is all about one thing! WINNING The Superbowl,,,

Dolphins need to win out to have a serious shot at it....

That would give them a bye and we'd be home for about a month with our last two being home games.

We'd have a shot then...

No way No how. Losing in the first round would ruin the whole reason we are trying to make the playoffs..........To win a damn superbowl
