with all these reports from practice from omar mando palm beach post guy ben something is it just me or r we looking good or better then years past?

New system...it just feels good believing our team has a future. West coast offense (exciting), a defense that better fits our current personnel and coaches who actually know how to develop talent. I expect growing pains this year, but I'm excited about the development of of younger players.

I use to be very optimistic this time of year. Sadly, recent years have reduced me to being just hopeful.

I think its the new attitude and mentality. I think losing Brandon Marshall and the yearly circus that surrounds him is also helping. There was no denying his talent but it can not be denied that he came with new baggage every year.

Every team is having a fantastic camp. We have a bright future, again most teams do.

I have learned to calibrate my expectations:

1. New coach....Not first choice, looks promising.(arent all new coaches)
2. New Rookie QB....A reach and always a risk in every draft
3. New DC and defense
4. Lost biggest weapon/playmaker
5. Tough division
6. Cueless owner
7. Fair weather fan base

This year is all about the development of the coaching staff and players, anything else is upside.

Overly optomistic....and then smack! reality hits you in the face....

After this week I'm feeling an 8-8 kind of vibe...

I think 8-8 is a sensible hunch, but I think we may surprise. Despite how many that are eager for Tennehill to play or for Garrard to start, I think Matt Moore ought to get the nod. If he blows it up, nothing lost. We at least have some options this year.

I still am optimistic about a few things: Mike Sherman and new offense; a whole offseason to practice; better options on the O-line; B Marshall not in the mix; Reggie Bush in a true WC offense. I hope I'm right, I hope I'm right...

I've been optimistic every year, and then a huge let down. This year I am doing a wait and see, but I am hopeful.

Reasons for optimism:

1. A great defensive line that is one of the best in football.
2. A new head coach with a proven history of developing quarterbacks.
3. A speed it up, up tempo offense that could wear opponents out in the Miami heat
4. A better offensive line with the addition of Jonathan Martin
5. A pretty easy early schedule
6. A better quarterback situation than last year
7. A lot of young players who could emerge at many positions
8. Reggie Bush is a big time playmaker
9. Vontae Davis came on strong last year and has elevated his game

Reality check:

1. Lots of young players who are unproven
2. On paper Hartline is the best receiver
3. A new coaching staff usually doesn't mean a lot of wins (heck Bill Walsh won 3 games his first year, Jimmy Johnson 1)
4. A secondary full of questions
5. Who provides a pass rush opposite Cam Wake
6. Tough division

Reasons for optimism:

1. A great defensive line that is one of the best in football.-That is also changing scheme...long term yes 2012 no!
2. A new head coach with a proven history of developing quarterbacks.- A new(unproven)Head Coach
3. A speed it up, up tempo offense that could wear opponents out in the Miami heat-Weak fair weather fan base that allows NY/NE to takeover their stadium
4. A better offensive line with the addition of Jonathan Martin-Looks promising
5. A pretty easy early schedule- For our opponents.....What do you think other fan bases think about playing us?
6. A better quarterback situation than last year-A new QB with a new system and no playmakers beside Bush
7. A lot of young players who could emerge at many positions-heard that for the last decade
8. Reggie Bush is a big time playmaker-Agreed
9. Vontae Davis came on strong last year and has elevated his game-Lets hope he is consistent all year

Reality check:

1. Lots of young players who are unproven
2. On paper Hartline is the best receiver
3. A new coaching staff usually doesn't mean a lot of wins (heck Bill Walsh won 3 games his first year, Jimmy Johnson 1)
4. A secondary full of questions
5. Who provides a pass rush opposite Cam Wake
6. Tough division

Even more questions than answers for 2012

You will enjoy the season more when reality is acknowledged......Trust me it has made the last decade bearable.

I normally do acknowledge reality, the last seasons for example, as much as i didn't want to admit we were going to be an 8-8 team at best, and held out hope for the playoffs, i still knew with all that transpired well.... that we'd have issues. But this season....I just feel better about everything and think we'll have a better then expected year. And I think the main reason is the coaching change. Just listening to Philbin speak for 5 min's and you just get this sense that even without coaching a single game as head coach, he's leaps and bounds smarter, more articulate, farther ahead and just plain better then Sparono ever was or ever will be as a coach. (and I was never a sparono hater,I finally see just how below average he, and by proxy we were)
