Rex Ryan was so pleased with his team's surprising playoff run this season, he's clearing out his wardrobe.

Only green and white from now on for the New York Jets coach.

"You won't see me in nothing but Jets gear because I believe," Ryan said Monday before taking yet another shot at his king-sized build. "And the fact that there are 4X."

All kidding aside, the Jets proved they were no joke after coming within a win of going to the Super Bowl. Any disappointment from their 30-17 loss to Indianapolis in the AFC championship was overshadowed by pride as the Jets began thinking about next season.

"I told our players to wear their Jets stuff and be proud of it," Ryan said. "There's no reason we shouldn't be proud to be a New York Jet. This isn't the 'Same Old Jets' and any negative connotation that way is crazy. Like I said, punch somebody in the nose for it if that's the case.

"That's the way we feel because our football team is tough. We are resilient and I think we are going to get back."

They should be proud of their season, they got farther than they probably should (no matter if they backed into the playoffs or not, they got within one game of the Super Bowl).

Now Rex needs to understand that the team still has holes on offense (Mostly with consistency at WR, and they could use a 2nd TE), and defense (depth in the front 7, consistent pass rusher). Also need to start opening the playbook up a bit more. Sanchez struggled as a rookie and their playoff run came from a very vanilla playbook (though Sanchez did make the throws he needed to make I'll give him that), but they gotta be able to run and pass with consistency.

As an unbiased observer, the Jets got hot at the right time. They could easily go 12-4 next year, but I could also see them regressing too. That's how it is with almost every team in the league (and the Jets kind have been that way since 2000 anyway)

I agree they should be proud of their run. I wanted to see them lose but I predicted they would have beaten the Bengals on one thread and I had another sick feeling they would beat the Chargers as well. That team is just tough to deal with. Congrats to the Jets' fans on this board.

Sanchez had the best playoff performance in the history of the NFL for a rookie QB. Better than Marino, Elway, Roethlisberger, Flacco, Ryan, anyone.

Maybe, but that's probably a stat telling you that. I'm all for stats but my eyes tell me the kid can't even be in the same paragraph as Marino or Elway, just sayin!

I am 50/50 on Sanchez. The guy can make some big time throws and acts as a playmaker but then there are times he makes so many boneheaded throws or is way off. He has potential to be great but he also can turn out to be another Rex Grossman.

Well you have to keep it in the context of their rookie playoff seasons. Obviously you cannot compare the career of Sanchez to anyone I listed. It's a small sample set, and yes, it's based on stats.

1 Mark Sanchez 2009 Jets Record (2 - 1) 41 / 68 539 yds 4 TDs 2 INTs 92.7 rating
2 Dan Marino 1983 Dolphins Record (0 - 1) 15 / 25 193 yds 2 TDs 2 INTs 77.6 rating
3 Matt Ryan 2008 Falcons Record (0 - 1) 26 / 40 199 yds 2 TDs 2 INTs 72.8 rating
4 John Elway 1983 Broncos Record (0 - 1) 10 / 15 123 yds 0 TDs 1 INTs 64.0 rating
5 Ben Roethlisberger 2004 Steelers Record (1 - 1) 31 / 54 407 yds 3 TDs 5 INTs 61.3 rating
6 Bernie Kosar 1985 Browns Record (0 - 1) 10 / 19 66 yds 1 TDs 1 INTs 56.0 rating
7 Jim Everett 1986 Rams Record (0 - 1) 9 / 18 136 yds 1 TDs 2 INTs 54.2 rating
8 Joe Flacco 2008 Ravens Record (2 - 1) 33 / 75 437 yds 1 TDs 3 INTs 50.8 rating
9 Shaun King 1999 Buccaneers Record (1 - 1) 28 / 61 320 yds 1 TDs 3 INTs 47.2 rating
10 Pat Haden 1976 Rams Record (1 - 1) 19 / 43 313 yds 1 TDs 5 INTs 37.4 rating
11 Daryle Lamonica 1963 Bills Record (0 - 1) 9 / 24 168 yds 1 TDs 3 INTs 36.8 rating
12 Todd Marinovich 1991 Raiders Record (0 - 1) 12 / 23 140 yds 0 TDs 4 INTs 31.3 rating

This doesn't indicate future success either, it's just a measure of how he did as a rookie QB in the playoffs. Better than anyone before him, and by a pretty good margin.

Sanches didn't show much all year that's for sure. I think the NFL almost wants him to suceed more than he will imo.
Sanchez showed a lot of talent this year, but he also showed a kid that was inexperienced and had trouble with reading defenses. He had a few INTs that were because his WR wasn't on the same page, that being BE. He would throw the ball to a place he though BE would be and he wasn't.. BE was thrown into a new system mid season so these things happened.
But then as the season closed everything clicked, the OC started realizing that hes a rookie and stuck to the run when it was working and didn't have him trying to make all these passes downfield. He also learned to check it down more and not force passes in.

His best games were in the playoffs, the Bengals game he looked on. He was extremely accurate with the ball and was firing it around in the cold so he showed he can be effective in cold weather too.
The Colts game he made some big time throws, one play on a 3rd down he broke a sack attempt from Mathis and threw a great pass outside to J-Co.
Then he had a 80 yard TD throw where he had a nice PA and then the pump fake had Freeney jumping then fired a pass right into the bread basket.
His other TD pass was really good too, stood tall and delivered a strike to Keller as he was getting smacked.

He showed a lot of confidence and poise in the playoffs like those games weren't too big for him. I believe he has a bright future in this league, the talent is there. Hes a hard worker from everything I heard from teammates and has a lot of leadership skills and other intangibles. Mangold said that Mark was always the first in the building, they all believe that Mark will be great one day.

He already set up some passing sessions with Edwards, J-Co, and Keller this offseason to try and get better.

I think hes a franchise QB and will show big improvements next season.

Obviously you can't compare his one year to HOF careers of two of the best QBs to ever play the game but for a rookie he had a good year and he had a great postseason- better than any rookie has ever had.

I am 50/50 on Sanchez. The guy can make some big time throws and acts as a playmaker but then there are times he makes so many boneheaded throws or is way off. He has potential to be great but he also can turn out to be another Rex Grossman.

The great thing is laet in the year and in postseason he wasn't making the boneheaded plays anymore and in the biggest pressure games he has ever played in he played his best football as a pro- that's a GREAT sign.

I couldn't be happier w/ the way Sanchez has prgressed and the way he played in postseason. He'll be going into year w/ his first full offseason w/ the team along w/ Keller going into year 3 and Braylon having an offseason and TC w/ the jets. I xpect a major step forward for him next year.

FRAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Wait, they would be frauuds if they lost to the bengals in the first rd. But no, they won that game on the road, then went out west and won that game. But no, their frauds. The dolfags were actually frauds, like the jets players had been saying all yr. And congrats on beating us twice, during the middle of the season when our team was losing to the bills and jags. GREAT JOB PHONIESS.
