OTA Updates (6/17/14)

James Walker ‏@JamesWalkerNFL · 3s
I said a few weeks ago that the #Dolphins' new offense will have growing pains. The question is will things be ironed out by Week 1?

#Dolphins' offense can't afford to be a weak link. Miami plays the #Patriots and #Bills -- two tough matchups -- to start the season.

Walker's article/breakdown of today should be interesting to say the least.

-- Brandon Gibson just caught two straight passes from Tannehill during 7-on-7s. Guess he's working, just not doing team drills.

Sounds like there were a few wr's that got an earful today from Tannehill. Glad to see him continue to take control of the offense.

Ya, Matthews was another one. I really think he is beginning to see himself as more of a leader/taking on the responsibility as a franchise QB and he is just showing that trait that we all want to see.

Tannehill says Jarvis Landry has some of the "strongest hands" he's ever seen on a receiver

god i hope will davis and aikens dont have to play for us in games that matter...davis nickname in the lockerroom should be "cushion"

jamar taylor sounds ready...too much pressure still on the qb...they better fix it or run with more protection staying in...

why on earth is damian williams getting run over jarvis landry...that's a joke...i did like hearing billy turner got some 2nd team tackle reps...bout time he got some tackle looks

saw something earlier that said more 2 tight end than 3 wr under coyle...not sure i think that's a very good idea given how pedestrian the 2nd tight end is sure to be paired with clay in the passing game but it may help out with some protections stuff

still think our best mismatches personnel wise are in 3 wide single tight end single back sets...provided the protection is shored up

team while pushing tempo still huddling up every time...new offense so i get it and more 2 tight end means less no huddle i'd say but i'd sure like to see us break out some no huddle this year...especially if the oline shows as still an issue early

I'm guessing it's just because to see what he can do with the first teamers. By the tweets that happened today it looks like Matthews is still sluffing off in practice and doesn't have his head in the game. They know Landry is going to make the squad as the #4 WR but they may just want to make sure Williams or Binns can give the same production as Matthews if they only go with 5 WR's on the final roster and have to cut two of them.

I think during Thursday's practice, which is a scrimmage, we may see a bit more of the no huddle/faster tempo many of us want to see.

i'm pretty sure williams won't provide mathews like production if we keep him as a wr...

looking forward to the scrimmage thursday...bet it's more tempo than no huddle though...this teams running out of time before camp to learn the offense to play with tempo let alone no huddle...doubt it's in the works barring end of half and game 2 minute like scenarios early this season at least...

I agree, but you can't fault the coaching staff for due diligence, which is the only reason I see him getting time with the 1's.

From a different point of view, Williams could have been in there for Matthews instead of Landry. There was no mention of what formation the fins were in. It could have been 4 wide. With Matthews loli-gagging it earlier in practice the coaching staff could have put Williams in to prove a point.
