hopefully their forty yard dashes will help them fall to us in spots where we wouldn't have been able to get them before

the forty yard dash is a joke

would you rather have Jason Whitten or Vernon Davis as your TE?

Wouldn't a better comparison be Antonio Gates or Jason Witten? Vernon has only been in the league 2 years and broke his leg in his first one. Personally, I would take Antonio Gates over Witten.

Is that the same as who would you rather have throwing the ball, Tony Romo or Alex Smith?

what was Gates' 40 at the combine?

if you judge a T by his 40 time, then you are a fool

Not by a 40 time...the 10 and 20 yds are far better to show what a Tackle can do...but when they run that 40...they break that 40 into different parts...so the 40 has it's purpose...and by the way...I'm not the fool.

A tackle that runs in the 5.50 time isn't quick enough no matter what you would wish...and he's no LT.

The 40 isn't a joke...especially for a TE. Otah proved he is what he is...a RT.
yea it is a 40 for an OL is stupid when are they going to be running 40 yards down the field and for a TE it make a Little more sence but EVERONE is going to be going faster when they are chasing someone or getting Chased by someone

I can't find his actual combine numbers, not sure if he actually participated, but I'm seeing between 4.4 and 4.5.

so lets get this straight

I am talking about the combine

I pick a guy that ran an incredible time at the combine

you pick a guy who never ran at the combine and say "wouldn't a better comparison be the guy who didn't run at the combine"

wow this place tires me out

I assumed you were picking 1 that was a more complete TE to one that was a vertical threat that lacked blocking. What's the use of comparing an established player in a very good offense to someone who is playing for a terrible offense who's 2 years in. So I thought picking someone who IS established and plays for a good offense that is a vertical threat is better than picking Davis.

The 40 yard dash is a joke. How often, on a football field does your tight end line up in a 3 point stance, in shorts and a t-shirt, and sprint 40 yds down the field. The only valuable piece of information that is obtained from the combine is the medical session.

I disagree. Jeff Otah ran a 5.56 (I believe) and I'm still certain he's one of the 3 best LT prospects in this draft.

He will run even slower in games when he has to step over his pancaked opponents. :)
