Other NFL Players' Perspectives on Dolphins' Leadership and Culture

He's a raving lunatic that belongs in a cage. While such behavior is most often accepted in the NFL, Incognito is not a suitable leader.

Onward and upward. I still think we can swing 8-8 and I'm pumped! We are the best team in FL!
But somehow Richie Incognito has played in the league since 2006, without any of his teammates' ever having come forward in this way before.

Like I said, this takes both someone's being distressed by his behavior, as well as the awareness that someone is distressed. I don't think we can say for sure that anyone on the team was aware of Jonathan Martin's distress, assuming he even had any that was caused by Incognito or the other players.

I am VERY GLAD that the players in that locker room have been called out by not only fans, but by current and former players all over the league. And I was VERY impressed with Shannon Sharpe's passionate statement yesterday. It is not very hard to understand where Sharpe was coming from. The players on this team will forever be stigmatized as spineless for allowing Incognito to throw racial slurs around like the word water. There aren't too many people out there that have any respect for them right now. And they know it. I don't know enough about Incognito to know whether he is an overt Racist or not, but I do know he may have permanently put dirt on the names of every player's name in that locker room particularly the African American players. I am sure others will have their opinions. That's fine. But you will never change mine and most well thinking people.

But for that to happen, they would have to be made aware of it!

It's entirely possible that this situation involves the one set of circumstances known to date in which: 1) someone like Martin was displeased, 2) he didn't make it known to his teammates, so there was no perception on their part that anything needed to be done, and 3) he didn't keep it to himself.

It's possible that in every other similar scenario in the history of the NFL, the displeased player: 1) made his state of mind known to some entity within the team, which then solved the issue, or 2) never made it known to anyone, ever.

What we could have here is a player who didn't make the issue known to anyone within the organization, and, instead of suppressing the issue within himself and just going with the flow, he left the team and went to the media.

The perception that other locker rooms could've prevented something like that I think is a serious overestimation of their abilities.

But again, the problem with these sentiments is that they start with the idea that people within the organization were aware of Martin's state of mind, when in reality we've heard no evidence of that to date.

These other players need to start instead with the question, "if I and my teammates were not aware that a player was feeling this way, could we have intervened in a way any better than the Dolphins did?"

But instead that question isn't asked. It's as if the team must have been aware Martin was distressed, which I think is an erroneous assumption, given the evidence to date.

It is quite possible your analysis is spot on, I hope we get all the facts before all of this is over.....couple of things we do know is Martin was nicknamed the big weirdo for reason, we also know this 6-5 300 lb kid couldn't look other players in the eye when spoken too, to me this a red light and chances are this guy is not going to approach anyone about issues they feel uncomfortable with, as a leader you have pull guys like this aside and level with them in private, especially if you see something said or done that's normally considered over the line and if you get the feeling after talking to Martin that it is upsetting him then you approach Richie about his conduct, in private.....doesn't have to be confrontational but more about getting the best out of Martin each Sunday so we have the best chance of reaching our team goals....its quite possible some of this was done and possible Martin denied there was a problem, hopefully time will tell

I just watched Shannon statement and it was excellent, you could feel the passion, here is a guy who had a speech impediment growing up, bet he was picked on quite a bit in his youth, but didn't address the bully aspect of this he went straight at the black players on this team for giving the ok to Richie to use the N word.....I couldn't agree with him more...I hope all the players in the locker room look at themselves in the mirror and become better people, teammates, and leaders because of it.....

Football is not like a real business, that's why they are exempt from antitrust laws and are allowed to revenue share.

They are not exempt from workplace safety and environment laws. And that's what this is all about.

What about Martins agent if this was bothering Martin so much why didn't Martin say so to his agent and if so then why didn't Martins agent go to the Dolphins and tell them this has got to stop..?

There's lots of stuff in this timeline that just makes you scratch your head.

Or, as we'd say in TDCJ;

"All of a SUDDEN!"
