Our D ? Is it me ?

The questions hurled at our D are pretty lame. The simple fact is that this defense has played better and with more intensity in the first 2 games of the season than it has over the last two years. We are ranked #2 overall in the NFL! It is fascinating to me how many people feel the need to point out the fly in the room while ignoring the elephant in the corner.

Has our D let us down before? Sure...given the fact that they are typically on the field at least two or three times as long as the offense (sometimes longer), how can we be surprised by that? Most of the leads that this D has allowed to slip away have come as the result of the "prevent" defense...it is scheme/coaching that has created the problem, not execution. Anyone remember the players complaining about the vanilla scheme 2 offseason's ago?

When this offense figures out how to put up at least 2 touchdowns a game and we are still losing, then we should look at the D. When the offense can't put up more than 3 points in 3 quarters against a very mediocre D and can't rush for more than 25 yards, attacking the defense is foolish.

First off, my hats off to our D over the last few years. But, yes there is a but... It seems, every game, they play there butts off, making big plays after big plays, but when it gets crunch time, when we need a big play the most, we are a house of cards, letting crap QB's look like Studs. Its seems like we never get that big play, that big sack, like Trace Armstrong gave us. Is it coaching ? I don't buy they are tired. Come on, they could rise to the 2 minute drill.
The "D" can NOT be held accountable for the DC deciding to go "prevent" when the game plan had been working fine all game long. They gave up more yards in the last two minutes than they did in the first 58, because of the change in game plan ! ! ! NOT because of the players ! ! ! This happens EVERY game.

CAN ANYBODY NAME ONE GAME WE DID NOT PLAY PREVENT DEFENSE IN THE FOURTH QUARTER SINCE DUMBSTACHE CAME HERE ? ? ? :fire: :fire: :fire:

It's always crutch time when you're playing a close game. They stopped them 99 times and you wanted 100. It's fine if you have standards that high but the problem is the Offense not the defense. Now in 2002 if you wanted to complain about the defense I would have agreed with you. Not so much the players but the Philosophy. Also if Wanny decides to go Prevent Defense with the game tied (I dont know if he did). He's gotta be the biggest idiot ever to coach football. Prevent is meant to not allow fast scores. To keep everything in front of the defenders in order to spend much of the clock. Now if your tied you don't care about TD's all you need is Field position to score a FG. So you should not go to prevent defense.
