I was just wondering how you all feel about our FB position. To me, I would like to try and upgrade from S. Morris to a bigger more physical FB that can be better utilized as a lead blocker for R. Brown. Honestly, I would love to have H. Evans back, or someone of that strength.

Is there anyone we can draft in the late rounds, possibly day 2 that can provide size and athletic ability to spearhead our running attack?

call me a homer, but i really like quad hill from UM and i don't hear about him much or read anything online about him as far as the nfl is concerned. i liked him alot as a fullback at UM blocking and catching out of the backfield and i think he would make a nice late round pick or undrafted free agent pick up.

Morris hasnt been used as a Fb since october. Darien Barnes is our road grader, and he does a pretty good job. Dont expect him to catch any passes though. He does however weigh 240+...

I never understood why we let Heath Evans go, was it strickly a cap move or did Heath do something to warrant his release.

I do think this is a position that requires an upgrade but i don't think we will spend a lot of money here.

I thought the reason for Evens being let go was his sub-par blocking ability?

No, we released him because he wasn't a good H-back (he couldn't catch).

I agree with that, and we can expect Ronnie to catch those passes from the back field.

I've got no problem with Darien Barnes. I like his style.

What about Jerald Sowell...thought he was a pretty good FB for the Jets that just got dropped. He's definitely a better receiver than Barnes, but I'm not so sure about his blocking ability.

I couldn't agree more. I think we severly over look the FB position. If we could get a good run blocking FB, Ronnie would run wild! Think of the better backfields in the game....Sean Alexander - Mack Strong....LT - Lorenzo Neal...Larry Johnson and Priest Holmes - Tony Richardson...Jerome Bettis and Willie Parker - Dan Krieder...Cadillac (even though hes not better than Ronnie) - Alstott....Warrick Dunn and TJ - Justin Griffith...Don't get me wrong, RB's can do it without a good FB, but it takes a steller O-Line. Bottom line, I would love it if we went and got someone to lead the way for Ronnie.

Don't we have a guy that had some Navy service he had to complete last year on the roster that we can expect back and Saban liked a lot?

I think Darian Barnes has done a good enough job for us in the blocking department. He has that physical and nasty style that Saban embraces, and the team seems to enjoy his personality. He seems to be a great blocker in the running game, but I cant really judge him on his pass blocking cuz I havent seen enough highlights. His catching abilities are horrible but we really dont need someone with good hands in the backfield since we already have Ronnie. The role of a FB in our system is just to be a good blocker, and Darian is just that. That is unless we really do change our system to accompany this new "H-Back" role I've been hearing out. If that is true then Darian wont fit that mold. I heard Alex Holmes might be a potential H-back. Is this true? I think the FB position is the most underrated position on the offense so I'm interested in hearing about its role in our system next year.

We did claim him off waivers from the Patriots, but I don't know how long his contract was.
